Blue Chip Casino To Take Sports Wagers On NFL Opening Day

• The sports betting lounge will be located next to their restaurant The Game, in Blue Chip Casino.
• The venue will offer both kiosks and sports wagering windows that will accept bets.
• In the future, the casino will have a mobile sports betting feature for their patrons to use.

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. – The Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City, Indiana will be opening their sports betting lounge doors at 10:00 am the morning of September 5. The NFL season begins that night, allowing patrons to get their wagers in well before game time. In May, Governor Eric Holcomb (R) signed IN SB 552 into law, legalizing sports betting statewide.

This new law allows for all of the states gambling venues to offer sports wagering to their customers. Since the signing, many casinos have been working on the construction of their sports betting lounges in preparation for the NFL season. Blue Chip Casino, an extension of Boyd Gaming, sought out to sync the opening day of their lounge with the opening day of football.

“We thought that would be a good day to open,” said David Strow, Boyd Vice President of Corporate Communications.

They have a surprise guest set to appear for the grand opening but have been very tight-lipped about who it is. However, they have said that it is a very big name within the Chicago Bears franchise and the Bears will be one of the teams playing that first night.

Blue Chip has partnered with FanDuel when it comes to the operation of their sportsbook due to the general popularity of their applications among the sports betting community.

Official rules have not yet been approved by the Indiana Gaming Commission when it comes to legal sports wagering in the state. The Commission meets on Wednesday to finalize the details which will make Indiana the 12th state to offer their residents the opportunity to bet on sporting events legally.

The sportsbook at Blue Chip Casino will be the third in Northwest Indiana that has announced that they will be opening for the start of the NFL season. The Horseshoe Southern Indiana Hotel and Casino in Elizabeth will begin accepting sports wagers on September 4th while Ameristar Casino in East Chicago has an opening date of September 1st, making them the first to roll out legal sports betting in Indiana to residents.

The kickoff to NFL season will be on Thursday, September 5th at 8:20 pm ET. The Chicago Bears will host the Green Bay Packers at Soldier Field. The game will be televised by the NBC network.
