- A high school soccer coach was suspended in Pennsylvania after getting caught betting on sports with students, for as little as $10.
- David Zimmerman was known as the 2022 National Boys Soccer Coach of the Year before this betting scandal.
BERWYN, Pa. – David Zimmerman, a soccer coach at Conestoga High School, was caught wagering prop bets with students earlier this year.
Zimmerman was put on leave following the incident that occurred in January after placing bets on basketball games.
Residents are speaking out about the Pennsylvania sports betting incident on local Facebook Pages
“I read the story. The lead part about the soccer coach reflects a genuine mistake of judgement about small wagers on athlete’s performance,” wrote Dennis McAndrews. “Clearly wrong and foolish, but no student was apparently harmed, and an error of judgment which I respectfully submit should not be life-altering or professionally-disqualifying in any major way, especially for a teacher and a coach who is otherwise so highly regarded…”
While Pennsylvania has legal sports betting regulations that do not permit player prop bets on college athletes, betting on high school events is also not permitted.
The district has not made further comments about the incident.
