Legal NFL Betting

Legal NFL betting has become the unofficial pastime of American sports fans with tens of billions of dollars wagered annually. This number continues to grow with more states regulating sports betting. With about half of the country’s states providing some form of legal NFL sports betting, products vary by region and state with the most notable difference being the availability of mobile wagering.

When looking for the best legal sportsbooks for NFL betting, the answer greatly depends on where you live and what type of betting you want to do. For the casual bettor, betting on the National Football League is merely a fun Sunday afternoon and your local sportsbook isn’t a bad option. For the serious bettor, information and access to the best odds are crucial, as shopping lines and finding the best NFL bets is where online sportsbooks really shine. Legal NFL betting in 2021 will continue to be the most popular sport for sports bettors but in-game betting or live betting on the NFL (and the Super Bowl) is becoming the most popular way to bet on the NFL.

Betting On Thursday Night Football: Cowboys @ Saints

Thursday Night FootballThe Dallas Cowboys head into New Orleans on Thursday night for a showdown with the New Orleans Saints. Oddsmakers have installed the Cowboys as six point road favorites, and have given this game a modest total of 47 points. While the Cowboys have dropped their past two games, they still have been remarkable ATS this season, with a record of 8-3. The Cowboys will be without their head coach Mike McCarthy for this matchup due to COVID protocols. The New Orleans offense has struggled of late, but they are expected to get back both Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram into the lineup this week, which should immediately help the offense. Both of these teams have been profitable teams to bet the OVER on this season. The Cowboys are 6-5 to the OVER this year, while the Saints are 6-5 to the OVER.

Latest Super Bowl Betting Odds

NFL futures betting is one of the best ways to profit off your favorite team. Those who closely follow the NFL can often find highly valuable futures odds throughout the season, as the odds are updated after every contest. The earlier you wager in the season the better, as contenders will see their odds consistently shorten. No matter which way you are looking to bet, either on the favorites or on underdogs, there are long odds available right now at online sportsbooks for the Super Bowl winner.

NFL Conference Odds

Outside of betting on the Super Bowl, there are odds available for betting on the NFL Conference Champions. Bettors can find good odds here and win big even if the team they are betting on doesn’t win the Super Bowl. Betting on the AFC and NFC Conference Championships is another way t double down on Super Bowl picks as well, as a bettor could wager on the Kansas City Chiefs to both win the AFC and win the Super Bowl and cash in big twice at legal sports betting sites. Betting on Conference Championships is a great way to win big.

Getting Started With NFL Betting – A Step By Step Guide

To make getting started with NFL betting even easier, we have created a step-by-step guide. Of course, this guide is meant to be fully informative, but we also recommend exploring the rest of the website to understand betting online on the NFL. Read through our steps to sign up on an NFL sportsbook so that when it comes to the Super Bowl, sportsbooks will be a breeze to use.

  • Step 1: Shop NFL Lines At Various Sportsbooks – Lines vary from sportsbook to sportsbook. While variations typically are not drastic, every bettor knows that just one point can make the difference between a winning and losing wager.
  • Step 2: Pick A Reputable NFL Betting Site – Every website claims to be reputable, but the best way to know is to explore the site and read honest NFL betting site reviews. All of the sportsbooks we recommend are licensed and reputable.
  • Step 3: Pick The Right Online Deposit Bonus – Come NFL betting season, all of the leading online sportsbooks have bonuses for new players. While the right promotion can give you more opportunities to wager, always pay attention to the fine print.
  • Step 4: Fund Your Online NFL Betting Account – Online sportsbook deposit options vary by site, but the cryptocurrencies tend to be the only ones without any fees attached. All of the leading NFL betting sites accept Visa and Mastercard as well.
  • Step 5: Lay Down Your Bet – Making your bet is very simple, as bookmakers lay everything out. Select the line you want to bet on and your risk amount. NFL sportsbooks will calculate your potential winnings but always double-check your bet before confirming.
  • Step 6: Try Out Live NFL Betting – Bookmakers do not spend nearly as much time formulating live NFL betting odds as they do traditional odds. With this, utilize live NFL betting lines to double down on your bet, play the middle, or hedge it entirely.

NFL Bet Types

There are several popular types of wagers that are commonly used when betting on the NFL. The three primary types of wagers for NFL bets are moneyline, spread, and points total bets. Outside of these, sportsbooks will offer a variety of other wager types, including player props, game props, futures bets, parlays, and teasers.

NFL Point Spreads

Betting on the spread is the most popular way to bet on NFL games. The spread is an attempt by the sportsbook to make a game even for betting purposes. For example, let’s say the Atlanta Falcons were playing the Buffalo Bills. The oddsmaker would analyze both teams and decide who was most likely to win, and by what margin. If you bet on Buffalo at -7, they would have to win the game by more than 7 points for you to win the bet. On the other hand (in this example), if you bet on the Falcons at +7 they would have to lose the game by less than seven points (or win) for a successful bet.

NFL Moneylines

A moneyline bet is the simplest way to bet on the NFL. All a moneyline bet requires the bettor to do is choose the winner of the game outright. Each team is assigned odds which dictate the payout rate for a winning bet. The team with the negative number is the favorite, while the team with the positive number is the underdog. For the favorite, the number indicates how much would have to be wagered to win a profit of $100; for the underdog, it indicates the amount of profit the bettor stands to make when placing a $100 bet.

MyBookie Sportsbook

NFL Point Totals

Points totals, also known as the over/under, are another common NFL wager type. A points total bet requires the bettor to decide if the combined points scored by both teams will go over or under the se t point total. For example, if a game had a points total of 49.5, you just have to bet on either side of the line. Similarly to spread bets, the number in the parentheses for point totals indicates the payout rate for a winning bet. Typically, any overtime scoring counts towards the points total.

NFL Football Parlays

Parlays are multiple bets (referred to as “legs”) combined into one. This type of bet requires each leg to win in order to pay out. To balance out the greatly increased difficulty, the payout also increases exponentially. While seeing such a high potential payout can be tempting, parlays are notoriously difficult to hit, and get exponentially harder with each added leg.

NFL Football Teasers

Teaser bets are another popular type of NFL bet. A teaser bet shares many similarities with a parlay bet but adjust the lines to make each bet more likely to win. Each line is adjusted the same amount and always to the advantage of the bettor. Teasers commonly come in 3-point, 6-point, 7-point, and 10-point increments (though others may be available), meaning each team would be given additional points to their point spread. The drawback to teasers is that the payout is greatly decreased compared to a traditional parlay to make up for the decreased difficulty.

NFL Futures Betting

Futures bets, as the name indicates, are bets on outcomes of future events. These bets allow you to wager on the winner of the Super Bowl, Conference Championship Games, Division Titles, Most Valuable Player Award, Rookie of the Year Award, and more. Futures odds for the NFL are released following the preceding year’s Super Bowl and constantly updated to reflect roster, coaching, and personnel changes, injuries, and on-field outcomes.

NFL Prop Betting

Prop bets are bets that do not directly involve the final outcome of the game. This type of bet varies widely, but can be divided into two categories: player props and game props. Player props are bets typically in an over/under format. Most notable skill position players will have player props offered on things like their total yardage, touchdowns, and receptions, while defensive players will have props such as total tackles and total sacks. The odds for the over and the under can be significantly different, so be sure to pay attention to each prop bet’s specific odds.

Game props, on the other hand, concern team performance and specific game characteristics. The most common of these are team totals, which are functionally the same as traditional point totals but only concern one team. Quarter and half lines are another popular type of game prop: these can be moneyline or point spread bets, but only involve a specific quarter or half of the game. Other types of NFL game props include first score time over/under, longest touchdown over/under, and total turnovers over/under. Others are presented in yes/no format, such as: will a defensive/special teams touchdown be scored, will either teams score three times unanswered, and will either team record a shutout.

NFL Live Betting

NFL live betting has completely transformed the way that bettors can place bets on NFL games. Also called in-game or in-play wagering live betting involves the bookmaker posting real-time odds as the action unfolds on the gridiron. NFL live betting odds will change constantly making it a quick-decision type of bet. Live point spreads, moneylines, and point totals are almost always offered, while live player and game props are also offered occasionally.

NFL Playoffs Bracket Betting

College basketball fans are quick to fill out their March Madness brackets each year, but football fans have the same opportunity come football season. You can fill out your NFL Playoffs bracket just before Wild Card Weekend games kickoff and teams prepare for the postseason race. Smart bettors will pay close attention to seeding and even the Super Bowl futures odds for each of the twelve teams that make the playoffs. NFL Playoffs bracket betting is a fun way to increase competition amongst your group of friends and can be an easy way to win a few bucks depending on the contest prize.

Best NFL Bet Of The Week

This week’s best NFL pick will involve a road underdog in this week’s matchup between the hosting Las Vegas Raiders and the Washington Football Team. The Raiders opened as 1.5-point favorites, but the line has since moved slightly to 2.5. Washington has won three straight games outright as a point-spread underdog, while Las Vegas snapped a three-game losing skid with an upset victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving. Washington has covered the spread in four of the last five meetings between the two teams. Last week, Washington running back Antonio Gibson turned in a career-high 29 rushing attempts, racking up a season-best 111 yards. Las Vegas ranks 25th in the NFL in rushing defense, so Washington’s gameplan of establishing the run and utilizing Taylor Heinicke in the play-action game – which they have used to successfully complete three straight upsets – may be hard for Las Vegas to contain. Another key factor to note: Las Vegas’ primary play-maker, tight end Darren Waller, is doubtful to play this week against Washington. Without Waller, Carr will be without his favorite target, making Washington an even better bet.

Pick: Washington -2.5 (-105)

2021 NFL Betting Trends

ATS – Whenever you see an ATS (against the spread) record, it indicates the team’s record against the points spread set by sportsbooks for each game. This record can say a lot about how well a team is doing compared to the sportsbooks’ projections.

Best NFL Teams ATS 2021

  • Dallas Cowboys 7-0-0 +6.36 Units
  • Green Bay Packers 7-1-0 +5.45 Units
  • Arizona Cardinals 6-2-0 +3.63 Units
  • Tennessee Titans 6-2-0 +3.63 Units
  • Buffalo 4-2-1 +1.81 Units

Worst NFL Teams ATS 2021

  • Washington Football Team 1-7-0 -6.6 Units
  • Kansas City Chiefs 2-6-0 -4.4 Units
  • San Francisco 49ers 2-5-0 -3.3 Units
  • Miami Dolphins 2-5-1 -3.3 Units
  • New York Jets 2-5-0 -3.3 Units

Over/Under – The Over/Under record indicates whether a team plays in high-scoring or low-scoring games compared to sportsbooks’ projections. Teams that play in more games that cover the Over will play in higher scoring games than their projections. Meanwhile teams that cover the Under play in games that were lower scoring than their projections.

Mobile NFL Betting Apps 2021

No matter what device you have, you will be able to find an outstanding experience for mobile betting on the Super Bowl. While state-licensed sportsbooks only allow you to bet within state lines, NFL mobile betting sites will permit you to wager from almost anywhere in the country. Bettors will not lose any value, betting types, or options when wagering from their phone or tablet, as the mobile sportsbooks offer the same features as the desktop versions.

Is There Any Advantage To Using A Sportsbook With An App?

Generally, no. You might actually find yourself in a position where you are worse off and your sportsbook is taking advantage of you. Most downloadable betting apps are provided by local sportsbooks that also provide terrible odds on local teams. We could get into shared liquidity and make that a whole thing but instead, we’ll save you the time and tell you now that online books that accept players from multiple states will always provide you the best odds… and none of those sportsbooks require you to burn needed space on your phone to download a useless app.

The Wacky World Of Super Bowl Prop Bets

While many NFL games offer a wide variety of prop bets, the Super Bowl is king for these bet types specifically. During the big game, you will find player props for both teams (offensive and defensive) and everything else that goes into NFL handicapping. This also includes party betting games like Super Bowl squares, which are extremely popular for the big game. The real stars of the show are the fun prop bets that require no handicapping and no real football knowledge to partake in. Props bets like how long the National Anthem will go, the result of the coin flip, and whether the halftime show performers will twerk on stage are only the beginning of the propositions posed.

NFL Betting Limits

Sportsbooks offer different wagering limits depending on the bet type and the sport. If you are used to wagering on a different sport, you might find that the NFL betting limits differ from what you are accustomed to. This will also vary by sportsbook and by where a sportsbook is licensed and regulated. Different states and even countries will regulate their own betting standards. The minimum to bet on the NFL will be $1 (or potentially less) but below are the standard max betting limits for the National Football League.

  • NFL Betting Type Limit
  • Spreads $5,000
  • Moneylines $2,500
  • Totals $2,500
  • Parlays $2,500
  • Teasers $1,000
  • Player Props $500
  • Game Props $1,000
  • Futures $1,000
  • 1H/2H Spreads $1,000
  • 1H/2H Totals $1,000
  • Quarter Lines $1,000

States With Legal NFL Betting Sites

With legal sports betting starting to become a trend around the country, there are not only many in-person sportsbooks, but some states that offer legal online NFL betting. Most of the time, these legal NFL betting sites are connected and partnered with a land-based sportsbook or casino. This makes getting funds in and out quite easy for those who live close to a casino. Still, betting on the NFL with legal betting apps is restricted to the state in which you signed up, unlike online books which allow players from everywhere in the US.

How COVID-19 Has Affected The NFL

After a successful 2020 season that did see some bumps in the road with plenty of games being postponed and there also being limited to no fans at certain stadiums, the NFL is looking to move forward in the 2021 season. It should be noted that as long as players and team personnel can continue testing positive for COVID-19 that there could be more games postponed in the 2021 season. As for fans, with the rollout of the vaccine, there have been rumors that the league would consider allowing up to 75% capacity at some games.

How COVID-19 Will Affect The NFL Salary Cap?

The current NFL salary cap is $182.5 million with an average year over year increase of $10-$12 million. Traditionally, it has been rather simple to project the salary cap from one season to the next. For NFL bettors, this information becomes highly critical when handicapping future rosters and player movement. Can a team afford to resign their stud middle linebacker or is he destined to be replaced by a far-cheaper, less-proven option is the most basic example of its wagering impact.

A fan-less NFL season is going to wreak havoc on the teams’ bottom lines and when the teams are hurting, revenue is hurting. That is the key indicator for the cap, as yearly revenue and salary caps are proportionally related. Bettors need to be aware of this potential hazard before committing any significant units to future team totals or Super Bowl props.

The Future Of Sports Betting In NFL Stadiums

With the current NFL CBA, sports betting can now take place at NFL stadiums. This means fans and sports bettors are able to place wagers on the game in person at the stadium. The CBA also gives revenue from the sportsbooks to NFL players. With sports betting sweeping the nation, this is just another step towards the nationwide normalization of sports betting. The NFL is the biggest sporting league in the country so its embracement of sports betting on this level is a massive win for the sports betting world moving forward. The first teams to take advantage of this new rule are the Las Vegas Raiders and the Denver Broncos. More teams are expected to follow suit including the Washington Football Team but the launch of their NFL stadium sportsbook won’t come for a few more years.
