Record-Setting Results Tied to Kansas Sports
Like many other states with legal sports betting, the highs and lows and local teams affect sports betting activity.
| Month | Key Notes |
|---|---|
| January 2025 | This marked the state’s first (and only) $300 million handle month, boosted by NFL betting on three Kansas City Chiefs games. While their Week 18 regular season matchup was a blowout in the wrong direction because of resting starters, two playoff victories, including an AFC Championship win over the Buffalo Bills, moved the needle. |
| February 2025 | This produced a record $34.9 million in revenue (one of four months for Kansas to break the $30 million mark) and nearly $2.4 million in tax collections. Unfortunately, this was driven largely by the Chiefs bettors losing their wagers during Super Bowl 59 in a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. |
| March 2025 | March recorded a lower handle than March 2024, a dip likely tied to the early NCAA Tournament exit of the Kansas Jayhawks. As the Jayhawks generate the majority of March Madness betting interest, their second-round exit in 2024 proved to be enough to outduel the first-round exit in 2025. |
As the NFL season begins for the Chiefs on Friday (-3 against the Chargers in Brazil), many anticipate continued growth heading into Year 4.
