- Nevada topped $50 billion for a sports betting handle as of August 2025, becoming the fourth state to hit the mark post-PASPA.
- Retail sportsbooks and legal Nevada betting sites continue to drive consistent growth amid increasing national competition.
LAS VEGAS — Nevada has officially joined the exclusive $50 billion club in post-PASPA sports betting handle, becoming the fourth state to reach the milestone.
The Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) reported $455 million in wagers for August, pushing the state’s total past $50.45 billion. This places Nevada just behind other states with legal sports betting, like Illinois, New Jersey, and New York, in the post-PASPA rankings. Yet, the achievement holds special weight given the state’s unmatched legacy in U.S. gambling history.
Nevada’s market remains strong even outside of the peak NFL betting season. August’s handle was nearly identical to the previous year ($455M vs. $455.8M), signaling remarkable stability. It was also the 86th month (of 90) since June 2018, where the handle exceeded $400 million.
Amount of Money Bet In Nevada Over The Years
- 2018: $3.02 billion (starting May)
- 2019: $8.34 billion
- 2020: $12.68 billion
- 2021: $20.83 billion
- 2022: $29.46 billion
- 2023: $37.72 billion

- 2025: $50.45 billion (through August)
The August report also delivered strong financials across the board. Revenue jumped from $25 million in August 2024 to $42 million this year—driven by a hold rate increase from 5.5% to 9.2%. Following suit, the state tax collections rose 68% year-over-year to $2.8 million.
Continuing to play a central role in the market’s growth, legal Nevada sportsbooks balance long-standing retail operations with a thriving mobile sector. While newer states may be expanding quickly, Nevada’s infrastructure and experience with legal sports betting keep it as the benchmark.
