  • A New York Assembly Bill would require mobile sports betting operators to issue a monthly wagering statement to bettors.
  • The statement would include key statistics like the total amount of wins and losses, amount deposited, and overall net gain or loss during the month.
  • Assembly Bill 10239 was introduced on Tuesday and referred to the Committee on Racing and Wagering.

NEW YORK – New York lawmakers want to hold bettors accountable for their wagering action with Assembly Bill 10329. The bill would amend the racing, pari-mutuel wagering and breeding law to require legal sports betting operators to issue monthly invoice statements regarding their wagering amount and success.

Specific statistics in the proposed monthly statement includes:

  • The total amount of funds deposited during the reported period
  • The total amount wagered during such period
  • The total amount of winnings and losses during such period
  • The net gain or loss incurred by the bettor
  • The total number of wagers placed
  • The total amount of time the bettor was logged into the mobile sportsbook
  • Itemized account of promotional credits, bonuses, or free wagers used
  • Disclosure of problem gambling resources
  • Access to the bettor’s lifetime sports wagering history

If successful, this bill greatly changes the way that NY sportsbook apps monitor the biggest online sports betting state in the country. It was introduced on Tuesday and has since been referred to an Assembly committee, which decides whether it advances to the floor.

New York Trailblazing Responsible Gaming Measures

Unlike other states with legal sports betting that leave financial tracking up to the player, New York will bring the data right to them if this bill passes. Making players aware of how much they’re spending and/or losing is important with the addictive nature of microbetting. States like Massachusetts and New Jersey have pushed for more responsible gambling measures, but the mandatory monthly wagering report is a new feature across the country.

Aside from the monthly data, another significant portion of Assembly Bill 10329 gives players access to their lifetime account history. This prevents users from having one good month and switching their perspective on their betting success.
