WASHINGTON D.C. – With air strikes from both the U.S. and Israel fully underway in Tehran and across Iran, eliminating key Iranian regime officials, we take a look at who is next in line to be the Supreme Leader if one is announced.

Since the breakout of the strikes on February 28th, former Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has been eliminated along with several potential successors, including IRGC Chief of Staff Abdolrahim Mousavi, Commander Mohammad Pakpour, and Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh.

With the elimination of several key figures, different names have been coming up as successors as the Iranian Supreme Leader. Legal sports betting sites have chimed in with odds on who they think will take over.

Next Iran Supreme Leader

  • Hassan Khomeini +200
  • Alireza Arafi +300
  • Gholam-Hossein Mohseni Eje’i +600
  • Mojtaba Khameni +800
  • Position Abolished +800
  • Ali Larijani +1200
  • Hassan Rouhani +2000
  • Sadegh Larijani +2500
  • Muhammad Mirbaqiri +3500
  • Ali Asghar Hejazi +4000
  • Masoud Pezeshkian +4000
  • Reza Pahlavi +4000
  • Donald Trump Sr +50000

Hassan Khomeini

Known as the most likely replacement is Hassan Khomeini, the grandson of the founding Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. Although he has never taken part in Iranian politics, he currently holds a more symbolic role as the head of the Mausoleum for his grandfather in Southern Tehran.

He is seen as more of a moderate figure as well, which has surprisingly gained some steam to become the next Supreme Leader following the amount of criticism the current regime has faced.

For example, he disagreed with Iran’s Guardian Council who is responsible for choosing presidential candidates, after turning away reformists.

Alireza Arafi

Another strong name to watch on the political odds board is the current interim Supreme Leader, Alireza Arafi. Before being eliminated, Ali Khamenei had a blueprint in place in the event of his assassination, which had Arafi appointed leader in that moment.

No More Supreme Leader

Since the start of Operation Epic Fury for the U.S. and Operation Roaring Lion for Israel, one of the main goals for each of them is for a regime change in Iran, meaning no more Supreme Leader and an actual governing body in place.

That along with the elimination of key figure after key figure in Iran, that may be the only choice left for both sides.
