Schlittler Leads Odds For AL Cy Young After Skubal Injury - Cam Schlittler
  • Tarik Skubal is likely to miss an extended period of the season after the team announced that he will undergo surgery on his left arm. He was a +250 favorite to win the AL Cy Young for the second consecutive season.
  • Cam Schlittler of the Yankees is the new favorite to win the award at +225, followed by teammate Max Fried at +325.
  • Jose Soriano was tied for the second best odds with Schlittler before allowing eight runs in nine innings over his last two starts, dropping him to +900.

DETROIT – Last season’s American League Cy Young Winner Tarik Skubal will be out for an extended period of time after the team announced that their ace would need elbow surgery on his pitching arm on Monday.

This news has led to a massive shake up in an already vastly changed AL Cy Young market, which is without Garrett Crochet and Hunter Brown, meaning all three of the top vote getters from 2025 will be on the IL.

Skubal and Crochet each had +350 odds to win the award this season when the market originally opened and Skubal was at +250 just last week.

Here’s a look at the updated landscape of pitching in the American League following the recent news.

American League Cy Young Winner Odds

  • Cam Schlittler +225
  • Max Fried +325
  • Dylan Cease +500
  • Jose Soriano +900
  • Jacob deGrom +1100

Legal sports betting sites list the New York Yankees’ Cam Schlittler as the new favorite to win the award with +225 odds, just ahead of teammate Max Fried at +325.

Schlittler has been dominant through his first eight starts, posting a 5-1 record, 1.52 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, and 53 total strikeouts, all ranking top four in the MLB. He had +3,000 odds at MLB betting sites when the season began and got as low as +450 prior to Skubal’s injury.

Fried has not been far off, going 4-1 with a 2.39 ERA, 0.89 WHIP, and 43 total strikeouts. As well as Fried has pitched so far, the award is Schlittler’s to lose if he continues his current pace, granted there is plenty of season left.

Toronto’s Dylan Cease has snuck into the top three, though he has gotten off to somewhat of a shaky start with a 2-1 record and 3.05 ERA. Cease’s best case to win the award comes in the form of strikeouts, which he has 56 of in just seven starts thus far, the second most in the league.

Jose Soriano was tied for the second best odds to win the award through his first six starts, going 5-0 with just a 0.24 ERA, but struggled in each of his last two outings, allowing eight total runs in nine innings in two games against the White Sox, dropping him down to +900 after being tied with Schlittler at +450.

Jacob deGrom rounds out the top five, as the Rangers’ ace has gone 2-1 with a 2.01 ERA and 0.96 WHIP through his first six starts. Health has long been the concern for deGrom, but so far, he has looked sharp when available.
