World Cup Betting Preview: Argentina Vs. Egypt, Messi Props
  • Argentina is favored to advance with -800 odds over Egypt.
  • There are -115 odds for Argentina to cover -1, -1.5.
  • Messi has -141 odds to score a goal.

ATLANTA – After one of the biggest scares in the Round of 32 against Cape Verde, Argentina moves on to the Round of 16 against Egypt as their quest for a second consecutive World Cup title continues.

Legal sports betting sites are heavily leaning on Argentina to put its scare aside and handle business against Egypt in the Round of 16 and move on to the quarterfinals.

Note: Gamelines on World Cup betting sites only count towards the 90 minutes of regulation time and any extra stoppage time. They do not include the two 15-minute overtime periods or penalty shootouts.

Argentina Vs. Egypt Betting Lines

  • To Advance: Argentina (-800) vs. Egypt (+500)
  • Reg. Moneyline: Argentina (-275) vs. Egypt (+800), Draw (+380)
  • Reg. Spread: Argentina -1, -1.5 (-115)
  • Reg. Total: 2.5

At this rate, the question isn’t just will Argentina win? But by how much? And oddsmakers continue to lean on them to cover the spread despite the near upset to Cape Verde. Outside of the 3-2 win over Cape Verde, Argentina has rolled through its remaining matches.

That includes a 3-0 win over Algeria, a 2-0 win over Austria, and a 3-1 win against Jordan. All covering a -1.5-goal spread in regulation time. On the other side, Egypt is coming in with two wins and two draws. However, they struggled in the Round of 32 against Australia, winning 4-2 in penalties.

On paper, Argentina should win and cover. They average a +1.25 differential against Egypt and a +2.0 average goal differential against opponents outright, with an expected goal differential of +1.4. Egypt is playing with a +0.5 average differential and -0.4 expected differential.

Egypt also concedes the possession margin to Argentina at a 57% clip, while Argentina boasts 64%. Egypt also doesn’t have any clean sheets thus far, while Argentina has two.

All signs are leading towards Argentina getting it down in regulation and by more than the set spread.

Can Messi’s Scoring Streak Continue?

Messi has gone four straight matches to open the World Cup with goals and is currently tied for the most goals amongst all players in the tournament with seven.

Messi Goal Props

  • Anytime Goal: -141
  • First Goal: +230
  • Score or Assist: -335
  • 2+ Goals: +340
  • Hat-trick: +1500

Making up Messi’s seven goals are 24 total shots, including a World Cup high of nine against Cape Verde, with 15 of them being on goal.

Argentina vs. Egypt is set to kick off on Tuesday afternoon at 12 p.m. EST from Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
