BATON ROUGE, La.– Louisiana’s sports betting revenue report for June showed another healthy handle, this time growing 27.3% from last year’s mark. Bettors wagered $294.7 million in June, which translated into $33.6 million in revenue for the month.
In terms of wagers vs the previous year, June 2026 (27.3%) is the first month since October of 2025 (17%) with a year-over-year handle increase greater than 9%. The football offseason is far less profitable this year than last, as three 2026 months saw less wagers year-over-year compared to none last year.
Both handle and revenue numbers are the lowest since February, when Louisiana took in $289.4 million in handle and $31.66 million in revenue. Still, June’s proceeds and wagers written are a significant increase from last year, and it’s not because of the World Cup.
The 2026 World Cup is a logical explanation for the 27.3% increase in legal sports betting wagers compared to last year, but soccer wagering is down 70.8% compared to June of last year. Even from May 2026, soccer handle decreased from $713,717 to $153,507 despite the World Cup group stage taking place in June.
It’s actually baseball that’s picking up the slack, going from a $993,902 handle in June 2025 to $2.66 million handle in June of 2026. Louisiana bettors placed over $2.5 million on baseball in three-consecutive months.
Louisiana Retail Handle Down For Ninth-Straight Month
While Louisiana’s June revenue report showed a thriving mobile scene, retail sportsbooks continue to struggle. The retail soccer handle jumped from $33,442 to $128,546 in the midst of the World Cup group stage, an increase not seen with mobile betting.
Retail betting as a whole is down 13% for fiscal year 2026. June 2026 saw a 17.5% decrease in Louisiana sports betting handle compared to last year, the ninth-consecutive month with a decrease in wagers compared to last year.
June’s $11.38 million handle is Louisiana’s worst monthly retail handle ever. Retail sportsbooks still made close to $30 million for fiscal year 2026, but the downward trend in retail betting is a bad sign for the future of land-based wagering in Louisiana.
