Voters Will Decide Fate Of Nebraska Online Sports Betting
  • Two petitions for Nebraska online sports betting will appear on the November general election ballot.
  • Both initiatives passed the require threshold of signatures and geographic criteria.
  • The leading campaign behind Nebraska’s online sports betting initiative is supported by BetMGM, DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics.

LINCOLN, Neb. – Measures to legalize and regulated online sports betting in Nebraska will be on the Nov. 3 ballot.

The Secretary of State certified that both online sports betting petitions will appear on the 2026 general election ballot after receiving the required number of signatures. The Online Sports Wagering Authorization Constitutional Amendment petition and the Online Sports Wagering Regulation Initiative petition were both introduced by campaign group Tax Relief Nebraska, which is backed heavily by legal sports betting operators.

BetMGM, DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics are the top listed sportsbooks that contributed millions towards the campaign, which has now seemingly paid off. All petitions will be officially certified by Sept. 11 before appearing on the Nov. 3 ballot.

According to a report from the Nebraska Secretary of State, “To qualify for the ballot, a constitutional amendment petition requires valid signatures from at least 10% of registered voters in Nebraska and at least 5% of registered voters in 38 counties.” Both petitions met the 110% signature threshold and at least 5% of registered voters across 55+ counties.

What Happens Next?

If both measures are approved by voters, Nebraska sports betting will soon be available online. The Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission would need to create sports betting rules by June 1, 2027, which would establish all necessary regulation and guidelines for the online industry.

Based on Tax Relief Nebraska’s commissioned study, legal online sports betting in Nebraska could earn close to $90 million in annual tax revenue for the first five years.
