No Line Yet As Missouri Hosts Arkansas-Pine Bluff
  • Missouri hosts Arkansas-Pine Bluff Thursday as 54.5-point favorites.
  • Arkansas-Pine Bluff opened its season with a 35-15 win over Morehouse College on Aug. 29.
  • Missouri has outscored its last three FCS season-opening opponents by a combined 147-16 since 2023.
  • Golden Lions quarterback Garrison Davis threw for 182 yards and two touchdowns in that season-opening win.

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Missouri opens its 2026 season at home Thursday night against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, an SEC team hosting an FCS opponent in a game they project to win by more than 50 points.

No Line Yet On A Lopsided Matchup

Missouri (0-0) hosts Arkansas-Pine Bluff (1-0) at Faurot Field, with kickoff at 8 p.m. ET on SEC Network. The legal sports betting spread sits at 54.5 points, with no moneyline odds offered but -120 odds favoring the 61.5-point total to go over in this lopsided competition.

The Golden Lions are not walking in cold. They beat Morehouse College 35-15 in the Natural State Kickoff Classic on Aug. 29, with Davis completing 10 of 15 passes and connecting with receiver Demetric Whitlock on a 94-yard touchdown.

Morehouse plays at the Division II level, a tier below the FCS competition Arkansas-Pine Bluff otherwise faces. That stat line says more about Davis and Whitlock finding room against a lighter defense than it does about how the Golden Lions’ passing game holds up against an SEC secondary.

Missouri’s Recent Pattern With FCS Openers

Missouri has treated its last three season-opening FCS games as tune-ups, not tests. The Tigers beat South Dakota 35-10 in 2023, blanked Murray State 51-0 in 2024, and routed Central Arkansas 61-6 in 2025, a combined 147-16 with all three results decided well before the fourth quarter.

In each of those games, backups took over meaningful second-half snaps once the outcome was settled. Against Murray State, reserve quarterback Drew Pyne came in to run two long scoring drives that both ended in field goals rather than touchdowns.

That pattern is the real variable for legal college football betting in Week 1: the risk on a spread this lopsided usually isn’t Missouri’s starters, who tend to be off the field by the second half, but the string of backup-led series on both sides that follow. Those drives are exactly the kind of stray field goals and garbage-time scores against reserves that decide whether a total settles over or under.

Missouri’s pattern also decides who ends up covering Whitlock. Given how quickly the Tigers’ first unit has pulled itself in each of the last three openers, it’s the reserves, not the starters, most likely to see him on the outside. Whitlock’s 94-yard touchdown against Morehouse is the closest game tape anyone has on him against that level of depth.
