- Houston is a 2.5-point favorite over Cincinnati, priced at -150 on the moneyline.
- The total sits at 46, well below the 127 combined points the two teams scored in their openers.
- Joe Burrow is listed as a limited practice participant with a back injury and carries no game-day designation yet.
- Houston’s defense allowed 0.26 expected points per play, a porous mark, in a 36-31 Week 1 loss that included a blown lead.
HOUSTON – Joe Burrow is set to play through back tightness Sunday when the Cincinnati Bengals visit Houston, where the Texans are 2.5-point favorites after a 36-31 Week 1 loss to Buffalo.
Bengals Vs Texans Betting Lines
| Market | Line | Odds |
|---|---|---|
| Moneyline | Cincinnati / Houston | +130 / -150 |
| Spread | Cincinnati +2.5 / Houston -2.5 | -105 / -115 |
| Total | 46 | Over -105 / Under -115 |
Bovada and BetOnline post identical prices on all three markets. Backing Houston at -150 on the legal sports betting board means risking $150 to win $100, a steeper price than the point spread asks a bettor to lay – the moneyline charges extra for skipping the 2.5 points altogether.
The 46 total sits well under the 60 points Cincinnati and Tampa Bay put up in the Bengals’ opener and the 67 Houston and Buffalo combined for in theirs. Betting the over means betting neither defense repeats its Week 1 form, while the under needs at least one of them to actually tighten up.
Burrow Says He’s Playing
Burrow didn’t feel the tightness until after Cincinnati’s 33-27 win over Tampa Bay, and he’s dismissed the idea of sitting out Sunday as a precaution. “I feel good. Some normal game day soreness, that’s for sure. But I’ll be all right … I’ll do what it takes to be out there. If I’m not having surgery, I’ll be out there,” he told Bengals.com this week, calling the idea “ridiculous.”
That’s Burrow’s own account. The team’s official paperwork is more cautious: he’s been a limited practice participant on back-to-back days and still carries no Friday game designation. He completed 25 of 35 passes for 254 yards and a touchdown in the opener but also threw a pick-six, and his per-play passing value for the day finished in the red even though he beat his expected completion percentage by more than six points – the turnover, not his accuracy, is what dragged the number down.
Two Openers, One Leaky Defense
Cincinnati’s defense held Tampa Bay to -0.02 expected points added per play, a middle-of-the-pack mark that still landed on the right side of zero, while its offense stayed close to league average. Houston’s offense was the sharper unit in its own opener, positive on the ground and through the air.
But the Texans’ defense surrendered 0.26 expected points a play, deep in bad territory, in a game Houston led 31-30 in the fourth quarter before Buffalo scored late and closed it out on a strip-sack with nine seconds left. A defense that leaked that much against one of the NFL‘s better offenses now draws a Cincinnati unit that, turnover aside, moved the ball just as consistently.
Kickoff is 1 p.m. Eastern Sunday at NRG Stadium.
