NBA Tip-Off Tripleheader Less Than A Month Away
  • Detroit is favored by 1.5 points at home over Boston in the tripleheader’s opening game.
  • New York is a 5.5-point favorite over Philadelphia in LeBron James’ regular-season debut for the 76ers.
  • San Antonio is favored by 1.5 points at home over Oklahoma City in a Western Conference finals rematch.
  • Oklahoma City (+260) and San Antonio (+265) sit within five cents of each other atop the NBA championship board.

NEW YORK – The NBA’s 81st season begins Oct. 20, and its first night stacks three games: Boston at Detroit at 3 p.m. ET, Philadelphia at New York at 7 p.m. and Oklahoma City at San Antonio at 9:30 p.m., with no favorite laying more than 5.5 points.

Detroit Draws The Other Top Eastern Team

Boston and Detroit finished with the Eastern Conference’s two best regular-season records last year, and the league schedule puts their meeting in the 3 p.m. window that starts the new NBA season. Detroit is a 1.5-point home favorite, with the total set at 221.5, a number that treats the Celtics as capable of hanging with the team that finished four games ahead of them last spring.

NBA Opening Night Odds For All Three Games

Boston at DetroitPistons -1.5221.5
Philadelphia at New YorkKnicks -5.5231.5
Oklahoma City at San AntonioSpurs -1.5230.5

New York’s 5.5-point line over Philadelphia is the widest of the three, and the 231.5 total attached to it is the highest on the slate. That gap prices in New York’s status as the reigning champion and Philadelphia’s overhaul around James, who is walking into a title defense rather than a rebuild, on a night that doubles as an early marker for legal sports betting markets nationwide.

LeBron James Debuts Under A New Banner

James signed with Philadelphia in July, and the NBA Finals odds impact of that move landed immediately on the championship board, where the 76ers now sit third. His first regular-season game in a 76ers uniform comes on the night New York raises its 2025-26 championship banner, the same Knicks team that beat the Spurs in five games last June for the title. It is the tripleheader’s middle window, tipping at 7 p.m. ET and sandwiched between two games each favored by just 1.5 points.

Spurs, Thunder Run Back The West Finals

San Antonio eliminated Oklahoma City in seven games in last season’s Western Conference finals before losing the title to New York, and the two meet again to close opening night with San Antonio favored by 1.5 points at home, the same margin Detroit is laying in the tripleheader’s opener. Neither team enters as a clear underdog on the season-long championship board, either.

A Two-Team Race Atop The Championship Odds

Oklahoma City Thunder+260
San Antonio Spurs+265
Philadelphia 76ers+750
New York Knicks+950
Boston Celtics+1500
Detroit Pistons+2800

Oklahoma City and San Antonio are separated by five cents at the top of the championship board, with Philadelphia the next closest team more than 400 points back at +750. New York, the team that already won it once, sits fourth on the board, behind Oklahoma City, San Antonio and the Philadelphia team James now plays for. The board treats opening night’s late game as a preview of where the season’s real favorites will still be standing in June.
