Lamar Jackson Player Props For Ravens-Cowboys In Rio
  • Baltimore is a 3.5-point favorite in Rio, and the 53-point total is the highest number on the Week 3 board.
  • Lamar Jackson’s rushing yards prop sits at 39.5 against a Cowboys defense that has allowed quarterbacks 6.6 yards a carry this season.
  • Jackson’s passing yards line is 240.5, and the anytime-touchdown market prices him at +200.
  • Dallas is the designated home team, but Maracanã’s rain-damaged turf has been the week’s dominant storyline.

RIO DE JANEIRO – Lamar Jackson’s passing, rushing and touchdown props for Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys carry an added variable that has nothing to do with either roster. The Maracanã Stadium turf is hosting the first NFL game ever played in Rio de Janeiro, and its condition has become the week’s dominant storyline.

A Road Favorite In A Home Stadium

Baltimore (1-1) is favored in what is technically a Dallas (1-1) home game, the Cowboys’ assignment under NFL rules that require a team to give up one of nine home dates in seasons when its conference gets the extra game.

CBS carries the 4:25 p.m. ET Sunday kickoff, the first of at least three regular-season games the league has committed to Rio over the next five years in a country where the NFL says it has more than 36 million fans.

Baltimore is -3.5 with the total at 53, the highest number on a Week 3 legal sports betting board where no other game tops 50.

The Turf Is The Real Story

That total sits over growing concern about a playing surface shared by Brazilian league clubs Flamengo and Fluminense, one that Nick Pappas, the league’s field director, said this week has taken six weeks of record rain. Flamengo goalkeeper Agustín Rossi described a surface with “bumps everywhere” and called both penalty areas “bad,” part of turf complaints from Flamengo players that have followed the stadium’s packed schedule.

The NFL has said it has a plan to bring the surface up to its standards and has no plans to relocate the game, a stance with precedent behind it. The league moved a 2018 game out of Mexico City over field conditions, announcing that switch six days before kickoff.

Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer told reporters Monday he has “no concerns” and trusts the league to fix the surface, and Dallas chief operating officer Stephen Jones told 105.3 The Fan the same day that the club is not worried because the league has said it is full speed ahead.

A chopped-up field cuts both ways for a scrambling quarterback. It can open running lanes when defenders lose their footing, or it can take away the sharp cuts Jackson uses to create yards after contact.

The Rushing Yards Prop

Jackson’s rushing number for Sunday is 39.5, and no defense in the league has given quarterbacks more room on the ground so far. Quarterbacks facing Dallas have turned 19 carries into 126 yards, 6.6 a pop, with Jaxson Dart accounting for 54 on 11 tries and Jayden Daniels for 69 on seven.

A two-game sample that small means little on its own, but it is the exact matchup in front of Jackson, who has carried 11 times for 74 yards and a touchdown of his own this season.

Donovan Ezeiruaku, the Cowboys’ edge rusher, described the assignment on the team’s website as a quarterback who can throw it but “also run the ball at a very high level.” The number is generous relative to what Dallas has already allowed, though a beat-up field could blunt the first step that usually gets Jackson into open grass.

Through The Air, And In The End Zone

Jackson’s passing yards line sits at 240.5 at Brazil sports betting sites, reachable in a game carrying the highest total of the week. His anytime-touchdown price is +200, tied to a Ravens offense that leans on him near the goal line and a Cowboys defense that has already shown it can be moved on the ground.

The same softness that makes the rushing number appealing extends to the score market. A defense giving up 6.6 yards a carry to opposing passers makes the touchdown price look better than it would against a stouter front, provided the footing under him holds up as advertised.
