History Of The Queen Baton Rouge
The history of The Queen Baton Rouge is amongst the most interesting of all Louisiana sports betting providers. Like many casinos of the time and the eventual sportsbooks on them that were made legal in October 2021, the Hollywood Casino Baton Rouge was required to be a riverboat casino by a 1991 Louisiana gambling law. This law was meant to bring in tourists, take advantage of the nearby Mississippi River, and be a historical throwback of sorts to the old riverboats that used to travel by.
This meant that the Hollywood Casino Baton Rouge (the previous name of the now Queen Of Baton Rouge) was not allowed to open a brick-and-mortar sportsbook or casino. That all changed in 2018 when LA legislators allowed casinos to come ashore a few feet. Specifically, Senate Bill 316 allowed riverboat casinos to build permanent physical locations within 1,200 feet of their previous docking stations.
While the Hollywood Casino Baton Rouge did not immediately capitalize on this change, it did eventually settle on a plan to build a land-based sportsbook and casino. That process resulted in the name change from Hollywood Casino Baton Rouge to The Queen Baton Rouge. The Queen Baton Rouge and DraftKings Sportsbook would then launch on August 24, 2023.
