- After losing access to their previous helpline, NCPG introduced 1-800-MY-RESET as the organization’s new national number for gambling support.
- Dialing the new number links people to 24 dedicated centers across the country that provide no-cost, private assistance and connections to nearby treatment options.
WASHINGTON – The National Council on Problem Gambling just launched a helpline number that’s actually going to stick in people’s heads when they need it. Starting this week, 1-800-MY-RESET is up and running with trained professionals ready to take calls at any hour of the day or night across the entire country.
This change was made after the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey acquired the rights to 1-800-GAMBLER from NCPG. A court ruling in September of last year required NCPG to surrender administration of 1-800-GAMBLER when their three-year license deal expired. They temporarily used 1-800-522-4700, but officials found that a number that people could genuinely remember during trying times would work much better.

How the Helpline Works
The National Problem Gambling Helpline Network, a network of 24 specialist centers dispersed throughout the nation, is reached by anybody who dials 1-800-MY-RESET. Employees at these facilities have received substantial training and adhere to worldwide guidelines for helpline operations. The program is free to use, all talks are private, and callers are referred to local help resources.
The board’s president, Derek Longmeier, made it apparent that anyone can use the helpline: individuals who are struggling with their own gambling issues, those who are concerned about friends or relatives, or anyone simply seeking sound advice.
This launch’s timing is important. Legal sports betting has rapidly expanded across the nation, putting wagering at people’s fingertips via cellphones. It is now feasible to place bets at any time because betting apps and online platforms are legal in many states.
According to recent NCPG data, almost 20 million adults in America had some kind of problem gambling-related issue in the past year. Executive Director Heather Maurer pointed out that an easy-to-recall number removes barriers for those seeking confidential help.
During this transition, both lines will be operational, but NCPG expects that states will start using 1-800-MY-RESET in their public communications. For the following two years, more outreach initiatives are planned.
