ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. – Buffalo’s 41-31 win over the Lions on Thursday night cashed for anyone holding the Bills at -4.5 and blew past the week’s highest total of 53.5, all in the new Highmark Stadium’s regular-season debut.
The Board Settles
Buffalo’s 10-point margin cleared the 4.5-point number with room to spare, the kind of final that leaves no argument at the window. BetOnline had Buffalo at -4.5 (-114) after moving the line up from the -3 it posted before either team played, a number flagged as the shakier side of the board when the Bills were first favored by 4.5 over the Lions, given two defenses that had just allowed a combined 61 points in their openers.
The total told the same story faster. Buffalo and Detroit’s 72 combined points beat 53.5 by 18.5, comfortably enough that anyone on the over didn’t need the final drive to cash. Allen Opens The Building In Style
Josh Allen’s line read 20-of-31 passing, 248 yards and three scoring throws, and his legs added 69 yards and two more touchdowns, five in all. Stacked on his four-touchdown Week 1 game at Houston, that made Allen “the first player in NFL history with 5+ passing touchdowns and 3+ rushing touchdowns through two games of a season,” the Bills’ recap of the win said.
Buffalo led 27-10 at halftime and 34-17 after three quarters before Detroit’s fourth-quarter touchdowns closed the final margin.
Goff, St. Brown Weren’t The Problem
Detroit’s loss wasn’t about its passing game. Jared Goff’s night ended at 327 yards on 26 completions in 38 tries, four of them touchdown throws and none of them picked off, and Amon-Ra St. Brown’s nine catches went for 142 yards and two of those scores.
The Lions still finished 91 total yards behind Buffalo’s 446-to-355 edge and lost the time-of-possession battle by more than seven minutes, the gap that let Buffalo’s lead hold up despite the touchdowns Goff kept throwing.

Buffalo, now 2-0, is priced at -190 to repeat as AFC East champions. Detroit falls to 1-1 overall and 0-1 on the road, but is still priced at +1800 legal sports betting odds to win the Super Bowl and +900 to win the NFC. The Super Bowl number ties Philadelphia, with only six teams priced shorter.
