STANFORD, Calif. – The Hawaii vs Stanford prediction for Saturday’s Week 0 opener is Hawaii plus the points. Alejado Against The Worst Pass Defense In The FBS
Alejado finished 2025 eighth nationally at 282.4 passing yards per game and was the only FBS quarterback with four consecutive 300-yard games, a stretch that ran from late September through Nov. 1. Stanford is asking a quarterback 20 months removed from game action, in a new system, to outscore an offense that has already beaten this program. The unit Warren inherits averaged 18.8 points and 84.5 rushing yards per game last season, both among the worst marks in the FBS, so the laying-4 side needs the debut staff to fix two broken phases in one offseason.
The Counter-Case Is The Ground Game And 34 Years Of History
Stanford’s clearest edge is on the ground. Its run defense allowed a respectable 119.3 rushing yards per game last season, while Hawaii’s run-and-shoot managed just 103.2 rushing yards a game, so the Cardinal can commit safeties to the pass without much fear of being gashed. If Richard’s secondary tightens the underneath windows, Hawaii has no plan B on the ground to lean on.
The history is the other honest caution. Hawaii has not won a season-opening road game at a power-conference school since 1992, a 24-21 win at Oregon. The travel and the setting have beaten better Hawaii teams than this one, which is part of why the legal sports betting market still prices Stanford as a 4-point favorite at home despite last August’s result.
