The Mountaineers won their first meeting against the Trojans, winning by a final score of 7-5 powered by a go-ahead two run single by Tyrus Hall in the eighth inning on Friday.
On paper, the pitching advantage goes to West Virginia today, starting Chansen Cole, who’s went 10-1 in his 18 starts with a 3.14 ERA, while Troy will trot out Hayden Smith, who has posted an impressive 3.24 ERA and 4-0 record, but has only started seven games all season.
However, Cole started and struggled mightily against Troy on Friday, giving up four runs on seven hits in just two and two thirds innings. The Trojans have scored seven or more suns in seven of their last games with their loss to West Virginia being the only exception.
It will be interesting to see if either team can slow down the other’s bats, but CWS sportsbooks expect this one to be a high scoring affair.

This one is expected to be an especially high scoring game at Texas sports betting sites with a total run line of 14.5 runs. After losing to Georgia, the Longhorns posted a 14-2 victory over Alabama on Monday, marking their fourth game scoring double figures in their last seven.
Georgia had been hot offensively coming into the CWS, scoring 24 runs in two games against Mississippi State in the Athens Super Regional, but were shut down by Oklahoma, losing 4-3 on Monday after their win over Texas.
They will face left-hander Luke Harrison, who’s gone 6-3 on the year with a 4.29 ERA. The grad student will face one of the most potent offenses in the country, ranking 4th in both batting average and runs per game.
