Kershaw, Dodgers Given -179 Odds To Beat Padres At Home
  • Clayton Kershaw gets the start for the Dodgers Friday night, who are -179 home favorites over the Padres.
  • Los Angeles leads the season series 5-2 thus far. The two teams have not faced each other since June.

LOS ANGELES – A huge series for the NL playoff picture begins Friday night as the Los Angeles Dodgers host the San Diego Padres at 10:10 PM EST with the NL West lead on the line.

Padres vs Dodgers Game Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
Padres +1.5 (-135) +147 O 9.0 (-120)
Dodgers -1.5 (+115) -179 U 9.0 (EVEN)

The Dodgers are favored at legal sports betting sites, entering the game with -179 odds to win outright at home.

They’ve been one of the better home teams in baseball this season, going 38-24 at Dodger Stadium.

The Padres are currently one game ahead of the Dodgers for the top spot in the NL West.

Pitching Matchup

Starter Michael King for the Padres was scheduled to make the start Friday night in the series opener but was placed on the 15-day IL with knee inflammation, forcing San Diego to go a different direction.

They’ve yet to officially name a starter, but there is speculation that it will be Randy Vasquez, who has started 22 games for the club this season, going 3-5 with a 3.93 ERA.

The Dodgers will start Clayton Kershaw, who’s had a solid bounce back year in his age 37 season, going 6-2 with a 3.14 ERA a year after struggling in just seven appearances.

Kershaw had a rough go of things in July, posting a 4.71 ERA in four starts, but has allowed just one run through 12 innings pitched so far in August.

Recent Performance

The Padres currently own the second longest winning streak in the MLB behind the Brewers, rattling off five straight wins and have won seven of their last eight overall. Their 17-8 record since the All-Star break is tied for second best in the league.

They took the last two games of the series against the Red Sox before sweeping the Giants in San Francisco to start their stretch of four straight series in California between the Dodgers and Giants.

The Dodgers have struggled to find any kind of consistency since the break, going 10-4, the 7th worst record during that span.

They were able to win their series against the AL leading Blue Jays before suffering a surprising sweep against the Angels who are currently five games out of a wild card spot.

Head To Head

The two teams have faced each other seven times already, the Dodgers taking five of those games for a commanding lead of the season series and all the more reason that they’re the favorites at MLB betting sites.

Kershaw has yet to face the Padres’ bats this season while Vasquez has pitched twice against the Dodgers, both resulting in wins for LA.
