  • The Indiana Gaming Commission has approved the state’s sportsbooks to accept wagers on seven different Winter Olympic events from Beijing.
  • The seven approved events include alpine and cross-country skiing, bobsledding, curling, hockey, and both traditional and short-track speed skating.

INDIANAPOLIS – Sports bettors of Indiana will have the opportunity to get in on at least some of the Winter Olympics betting action after the Indiana Gaming Commission approved the state’s sportsbooks to accept wagers on seven Olympic events.

The seven events that the Indiana Gaming Commission approved sportsbooks to accept wagers on are alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, bobsledding, curling, hockey, speed skating, and short-track speed skating.

Sportsbook operators are not required to offer the Olympic wagers – the authorization merely allows legal sports betting operators to choose if they will offer these bets.

Both mobile and land-based sportsbooks are authorized to offer the wagers.

Live, in-game wagers are permitted; however, there is a bit of a logistical issue when it comes to betting on this year’s Winter Olympics. Since this year’s iteration of the Winter Olympics will take place in China, there is a long delay between when the events actually take place and when they are broadcasted in the United States.

Beijing is 14 hours behind Indiana.

As a result, bettors will have to place their wagers prior to the time the actual event begins. The same goes for live wagers – while bettors will be able to place bets during events, the live odds will only be offered as the event unfolds in China, regardless of the broadcasting schedule.

Despite the time difference, the authorization for betting on the Winter Olympics is sure to provide Indiana’s sports betting industry with a boost in revenue as sports bettors of Indiana cheer on their fellow Americans in the highly-anticipated games.
