Local Bars Looking To Offer Sports Betting In Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio will see sports betting kiosks at local restaurants and bars. Nearly 50 local businesses have been pre-authorized to host these betting machines.

Ohio continues to announced sports betting applicants weekly with bars and restaurants now seeing the most applications.

Ohio Betting In Bars

The CGA directly links mobile betting to an increase in drink consumption at bars and restaurants. Research shows that 70% of visitors would order more drinks if they are watching and wagering on a sporting event.

“We definitely jumped on the KENO bandwagon when it was new, so this was another opportunity for us to branch out,” said Thomas Heil, Little York Tavern & Pizza in Vandalia, General Manager. “I think a lot of people see us as an entertainment destination for our live music, trivia and things like that, so this will add another layer and gives people another reason to come out and enjoy the atmosphere.”

Ohio businesses are hoping for the same level of increased volume once sports betting goes live in 2023. The 50 bars and restaurants have not officially been granted licenses yet.

Ohio businesses need to gain approval from both the Ohio Lottery Commission as well as the Ohio Casino Control Commission (OCCC) before being allowed to host betting kiosks.

Locations with pre-authorization to apply are businesses in Miami County, Warren County, Montgomery County, and Greene County. Locals can expect to see businesses like Little York Tavern and Pizza, Kings Table Bar & Grill, and Company 7 BBQ announced as applicants in the coming weeks.

“The Ohio Casino Control Commission (OCCC) will issue licenses based upon the Lottery’s recommendation.” said Ohio Lottery officials in a statement. “Interested sales agents will be required to be in good standing with the Lottery’s rules and regulations and to obtain approval from the Lottery before applying for a license with the OCCC.”
