Sports Betting At DraftKings In Maine

  • DraftKings received nearly $5 million in wagers through five days of legal sports betting in Maine.
  • Caesars is the only other regulated sports betting site in Maine but received only $665 thousand in bets.
  • Maine launched legal sports betting on Friday, November 3.

AUGUSTA, MaineDraftKings is off to a hot start in Maine, receiving $4.79 million in bets through five days of legal sports betting. Sports betting launched in the Pine Tree State at 9 a.m. on Friday.

The Maine Gambling Control Unit posted the legal sports betting operator’s revenue numbers each day since launch. Sunday, Nov. 5 was the biggest day with a handle surpassing $1.58 million.

Sunday’s numbers are unsurprising since residents have waited to bet on the NFL in Maine for years. Unfortunately for Mainers, the New England Patriots lost to the Washington Commanders on Sunday.

The Patriots loss likely contributed to the low $3.58 million in winnings for DraftKings players. DraftKings is the official betting partner of the New England Patriots, who are the closest NFL team for Maine residents.

“We couldn’t have landed a better organization in the mobile sports wagering arena, and we look forward to continued progress and investment for future growth in the State of Maine,” said Passamaquoddy Chief William Nicholas in a press release. Maine expects to generate between $4 million and $7 million in annual sports betting revenue.

Is DraftKings The Only Maine Sports Betting Operator?

Although DraftKings’ numbers make them seem like the only Maine sports betting operator, Caesars also offers sports betting to Maine residents. Caesars’ Maine sports betting numbers were about 15% of DraftKings, as Caesars failed to break $700 thousand in the first five days since launch.

More than $508 thousand of the $665 thousand in Caesars wagers were paid to the players in winnings.
