- Malik Beasley is no longer the target of a federal illegal props betting investigation conducted by the Eastern District of New York
- Beasley was considered a target over allegations regarding gambling on NBA games during the 2023-24 season.
- The investigation stalled a potential $42M deal with the Detroit Pistons
NEW YORK – Malik Beasley is no longer a person of interest in a recent props betting investigation by the Eastern District of New York.
Beasley may soon be able to return to the court, following his clearance.
His contracts and offers were stopped as a result of the federal betting probe in June.
“Months after this investigation commenced, Malik remains uncharged and is not the target of this investigation. An allegation with no charge, indictment or conviction should never have the catastrophic consequence this has caused Malik. This has literally been the opposite of the presumption of innocence.” his attorney Steve Haney told ESPN.
Beasley had an unusual spike in his stats at NBA betting sites back in January 2024, and became a target of interest in a New York Federal gambling investigation.
Beasley played for the Pistons last season, averaging 16.3 points, 2.6 rebounds and shot 41.6% from 3-point range in 82 games. Beasley was set to sign a three-year $42M contract with the Pistons before the investigation of his alleged use of legal sports betting sites.
