Nebraska Becomes 34th US State with Legal Sports Betting

LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska has officially launched legal retail sports betting with the sportsbook opening of WarHorse Sportsbook. WarHorse Casino introduced their sportsbook to the public on Thursday, June 22.

Bettors can place wagers at one of the 10 sports betting kiosks or the sportsbook window in the casino. With a limited number of kiosks, the WarHorse Casino App allows legal sports betting anywhere in the casino.

The app, which is used by the sports betting kiosks, allows bettors to view odds and create a bet slip coupon in advance that they can then pay at the sportsbook window. To bet with the WarHorse Sportsbook, players must be at least 21 years old and pay with cash only.

The sportsbook offers odds for professional and collegiate sports, so long as the colleges aren’t participating in Nebraska.

As defined in Nebraska Statute 9-1103, an “authorized sporting event does not include an instate collegiate sporting event in which an instate collegiate or university team is a participant, a parimutuel wager, a fantasy sports contest, a minor league sporting event, a sporting event at the high school level or below regardless of the age of any individual participant, or any sporting event excluded by the commission.”

Legal sports betting wagers may be placed on a Nebraskan team when they play outside of the state.

Nebraska sports betting bill LB 561 made sports betting legal at approved locations by the Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission. The bill permitting retail sports betting was signed back in May of 2021, but WarHorse Casino becomes the first legal Nebraska sports betting location over two years later.

With WarHorse Sportsbook’s launch, Nebraska becomes the 34th state with legal sports betting.
