New Jersey Legislature

  • Senator Kristin Corrado introduced S-3080, a bill that would prohibit New Jersey sports betting operators from offering or accepting bets on college player props.
  • New Jersey joins a laundry list of states looking to, or already have, implanted a ban on college player prop betting.
  • Louisiana, Maryland, and Ohio are the latest states to take action and implement legislation.

NEWARK, N.J.New Jersey joins the group of recent states to take action towards banning college player prop betting. A New Jersey senator proposed legislation that would prohibit legal sports betting operators in New Jersey from offering or accepting bets on individual player performances of college athletes.

Senator Kristin Corrado introduced NJ S3080, which has now been referred to the Senate State Government, Wagering, Tourism, & Historic Preservation Committee. Her goal is to protect student-athletes from harassment and protect integrity, falling in line with NCAA president Charlie Baker’s reasoning for wanting a nationwide ban on college player props.

“Proposition bets have led to a rise in the harassment of student-athletes and have threatened the integrity of college sports,” said Corrado. “I have heard about many individual who have been the victim of online harassment because they didn’t perform to the expectation of a bettor who made a side wager. This legislation will ban player-specific prop betting in New Jersey, which will help curb that appalling behavior, and make college athletic events safer for all participants.”

New Jersey Looks To Be Latest State With College Prop Ban

New Jersey isn’t exactly a trailblazer when it comes to state’s banning college player prop betting. They’re the fourth state to make steps towards banning collegiate player props, as Louisiana banned college player props in the beginning of April, as well as Maryland and Ohio just weeks prior.
