Pearsall Out For Season, 49ers Win Total Sits At 10.5
  • Ricky Pearsall faces a six-to-12-month recovery after season-ending knee surgery, with nine months the realistic target.
  • San Francisco’s season win total is 10.5, with the over at +115 and the under at -140.
  • The 49ers are +340 to win the NFC West, behind the Rams at -115 and Seattle at +210.
  • Deebo Samuel Sr. averaged 10.1 yards per catch last season, a career low and 8.1 below his 2021 peak.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch said Saturday that wide receiver Ricky Pearsall will have season-ending surgery on the posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. The team placed him on injured reserve and signed Deebo Samuel Sr. to a one-year deal worth up to $7 million. San Francisco’s season win total is 10.5, with the under juiced to -140.

A Six-To-12-Month Timetable On A Knee Hurt Since Week 4

Pearsall first damaged the PCL in Week 4 of the 2025 season and played through it, starting nine games and finishing with 36 receptions for 528 yards. He aggravated it in the opening week of training camp this summer, and swelling shut him down after two practices. The recovery is projected at six to 12 months, with roughly nine months the realistic target.

Availability has been the Pearsall story for three straight years. The 2024 first-round pick did not debut until mid-October of his rookie season, after he was shot in the chest in an armed robbery near Union Square. A hamstring problem then cost him time in 2025 on top of the knee.

10.5 Wins, With The Under At -140

San Francisco went 12-5 last season and finished third in the NFC West. Those two facts pull the team’s two markets in opposite directions.

The 49ers cleared 10.5 wins last year, and they cleared it with Pearsall starting nine games. The California sports betting under at -140 implies about 58%. Whether the true chance of 10 wins or fewer beats that number is the bet, and losing that starter pushes in that direction without deciding it.

The total is the number to watch on legal NFL betting boards rather than the division price. One receiver’s snaps move a win projection far more than they move a three-team division race, so the total is where a repricing shows up first.

Mike Evans, A Calf Strain And Kittle’s Achilles

The room Pearsall leaves is not empty, but it is old and it is banged up. Mike Evans, signed in March, is the clear top target and a six-time Pro Bowler. He is also entering his 13th NFL season off an injury-shortened eight-game year. Christian Kirk strained a calf on the first day of camp and has been day to day since.

Tight end George Kittle, the most reliable pass catcher on the roster, tore his Achilles in January’s wild-card win over Philadelphia. He has talked about returning well before November, a target that still leaves Week 1 in doubt.

Behind them sit Demarcus Robinson, Jacob Cowing, De’Zhaun Stribling and Jordan Watkins. That is the depth chart Samuel walked into Saturday, on the fifth day of camp, when he caught a pass from Mac Jones in an 11-on-11 period.

Deebo Samuel Averaged A Career-Low 10.1 Yards A Catch

Samuel’s raw 2025 line in Washington reads fine. He caught 72 passes, the second-most of his career, for 727 yards and five touchdowns. The number that matters is the ratio between the two. His 10.1 yards per reception is the lowest mark he has posted, and 8.1 below the 18.2 he averaged in his 2021 All-Pro season, when 77 catches went for 1,405 yards.

That gap is a job description, not a slump. Peak Samuel was an after-catch and downfield weapon who bent a defense’s coverage. The player who left Washington is a high-volume, short-area target worked near the line of scrimmage, and he carried 17 times for 75 yards, a fraction of the rushing role that once made him a scheme problem.

Kyle Shanahan gets a versatile piece who knows the offense from six seasons in it. He does not get the 2021 player, and any win projection that prices Samuel as that player is wrong.

The NFC West Board Prices Two Teams Ahead Of San Francisco

The division is the harder ask. San Francisco is +340 in the NFC West, priced behind both the Rams and the Seahawks.

NFC West winnerPriceImplied
Los Angeles Rams-11553.5%
Seattle Seahawks+21032.3%
San Francisco 49ers+34022.7%
Arizona Cardinals+100001.0%

Those four implied numbers sum to about 109.5, roughly 9.5 points of overround, the cut built into this legal sports betting futures market.

Seattle went 14-3, took the division and won Super Bowl LX. The Rams traded for Myles Garrett in June. A +340 payout on a 12-win team is not a slight on the 49ers; it is the market pricing two complete teams ahead of them.

Lynch said the operation is still a couple of weeks away. A nine-month recovery from an August surgery puts Pearsall’s next competitive football in the spring of 2027.
