NCAAB NBA

  • All six of the top-6 college basketball teams in the nation lost this past weekend.
  • The Los Angeles Lakers have lost their last three games as the favorite.

LAS VEGAS – Those that are well versed in the sports betting industry truly know that anything could happen and that anyone can beat anyone. That has certainly been the case recently as major underdog teams have been coming out on top in different leagues.

Most notably in college basketball and in the NBA. In college basketball over the weekend, all six of the top-6 ranked teams in the country fell to their opponents. In the NBA, the Los Angeles Lakers have lost their last three games when legal online sportsbooks have them favored to win.

College Basketball Shakeup

For the first time in history, all six of the top-6 AP ranked teams in the nation have lost on the same day on Saturday, February 26. With that, there were plenty of underdogs that came out on top. Starting with the top team in the country, the Gonzaga Bulldogs were 10.5-point favorites on the spread and had -700 odds to beat Saint Mary’s. The Gaels, however, had a different idea as they cashed their +475 moneyline odds.

Continuing down, #2 Arizona (-9.5, -550) fell to an unranked Colorado team that went in with +400 college basketball odds. #3 Auburn was an underdog in their loss to #17 Tennessee who went in with -160 odds. The #4 Purdue Boilermakers fell at home to Michigan State (+180) after seeing 5 points in their favor. #5 Kansas also fell as an underdog (+135) to #10 Baylor who went in as 3-point favorites. Rounding out the top-6, #18 Arkansas (+120) topped #6 Kentucky.

While a decent profit could’ve been made betting against each of the six teams on their game lines, a parlay fading against them could have been astronomical. A $100 parlay going against those six teams would’ve paid out an incredible $32,636.

Fading The Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers are another team that have gotten the worse of favored odds. Los Angeles has lost each of their last three games when going in as the favorite. It started against the Portland Trail Blazers on 2/9 where they were 9-point favorites and Portland won the game with +360 odds.

It continued on 2/25 when the Los Angeles Clippers beat them with +105 odds. In their most recent loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on 2/27, the Pels won with +120 odds.

If $100 was bet on each of these three games, $585 in profit could have been made. The Lakers next play tonight against the Dallas Mavericks where they are +180 underdogs.
