St. Peters Peacocks

  • The St. Peacocks beat the Kentucky Wildcats in the first round with +1400 odds.
  • St. Peters had +325 odds when they beat the Murray State Racers.
  • St. Peters was a +650 underdog when beating the Purdue Boilermakers.

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The 2021-22 St. Peters Peacocks will go down in history after their March Madness run that came to an end recently in the Elite 8. For those that do not know, St. Peters is a small school of about 3,000 students in Jersey City. They are a part of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

This marks just the fourth time in program history that the Peacocks were able to play in March Madness. The Peacocks went into the 2022 March Madness Tournament as the #15 seed in the East Region where no one really gave them much hope. That quickly changed after they won their first-round game against the Kentucky Wildcats.

From The Beginning

The Peacocks first punched their 2022 March Madness ticket after winning the MAAC Tournament. They finished their regular season with a 14-6 conference record and a 22-12 overall record.

They then tipped off the tournament against the then #2 seeded Kentucky Wildcats where many were quick to jump on the Wildcats going up against such a small school. Also, at the time a #15 seed had a 9-135 all-time record against #2 seeds in the first round. That said, legal online sportsbooks gave St. Peters +1400 odds to make it past the Wildcats.

The Peacocks did the unthinkable and won the game 85-79. On a $100 bet, a massive $1,400 could have been made.

Moving on to the Round of 32, St. Peters had another tough, but lighter matchup against the #7 Murray State Racers. With the lighter matchup, the Peacocks March Madness odds were not as long as they were in the first round coming in at +325.

The Cinderella story continued as they took down the Racers 70-60 and those who bet on St. Peters to win went home with a $325 profit.

With their second-round win, the Peacocks became just the third #15 seed in history to make it to the Sweet 16, however, they faced a sure loss matchup against the #3 seeded Purdue Boilermakers. The odds were heavily leaning on the Boilermakers being that they finished the regular season as the #10 ranked team in the country.

That did not matter to the Peacocks at all as they cashed their +650 moneyline odds with a 67-64 win over the Boilermakers profiting $650 and becoming the first #15 seed in history to make it to the Elite 8.

The Peacocks’ run, unfortunately, came to an end in the Elite 8 to the North Carolina Tar Heels where they went down 69-49.

After all is said and done, the St. Peters Peacocks totaled $2,375 in profit from their March Madness wins when betting in $100 units. After accounting for their loss to the Tar Heels, $2,275 was made on their incredible run.
