Terry Rozier

  • Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier is under federal investigation for his involvement in an illegal betting scheme.
  • The investigation stems from a March 23 game during his time with the Charlotte Hornets where he exited after nine minutes and never returned that night.
  • Rozier has not been charged or accused of any crime yet but authorities believe the same people from the Jontay Porter scandal were involved.

MIAMI – Federal prosecutors are investigating NBA player Terry Rozier for his involvement with an illegal sports betting scheme. The investigation revolves around a game from nearly two years ago during his time with the Charlotte Hornets, but it’s part of the same probe that handed Jontay Porter a lifetime ban from the NBA.

Rozier adds to the list of NBA gambling scandals since the increase of legal sports betting across the country. The NBA looked into the game back when it occurred but didn’t find any signs of suspicious activity.

“In March 2023, the NBA was alerted to unusual betting activity related to Terry Rozier’s performance in a game between Charlotte and New Orleans,” said NBA spokesman Mike Bass. “The league conducted an investigation and did not find a violation of NBA rules. We are now aware of an investigation by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York related to this matter and have been cooperating with that investigation.”

Bettor Claimed To Have Inside Info On Rozier Status

Rozier played just nine minutes and 36 seconds before exiting and not returning with a foot injury. He missed the remaining eight games of the season with Charlotte out of playoff contention, but now investigators are seeing if he was involved in the same illegal betting scheme that Jontay Porter cooperated with.

The league found that Porter disclosed information on his game status to bettors and even wagered on the games, including his own team to lose. Some users on X, formerly known as Twitter, were claiming they had information on Rozier not playing the entirety of that March 2023 game.

Rozier finished the game with five points, four rebounds, and two assists, well under his projections for the night. The Miami Heat guard hasn’t made a public comment on the matter at the time of writing.
