Washington DC Sportsbooks Pass $1.5 Billion All-Time Handle
  • In July 2025, Washington DC hit an all-time handle of $1,546,702,720, increasing 71% year-over-year from July 2024.
  • New sportsbooks in the Capital City will help the handle and future revenue grow.

WASHINGTONWashington DC achieved a historic milestone, surpassing $1.5 billion in the amount of money bet on sports within the District. In June 2025, the city recorded a handle of $50.7 million, marking 71% in year-over-year growth from June 2024.

In the past month, the number of bets placed across various betting options contributed to the milestone handle and that number will continue to rise along with more tax revenue generated for the local government.

Since the regulations for legal sports betting passed in May 2020, the market has growth to having six digital sportsbooks currently recognized as active within the city limits. But the District can accommodate up to seven legally. This addition reflects the ability to continue its upward trajectory and the popularity of sports betting in D.C.

Annual Washington D.C. Sports Betting Financial Data (For June)

2021 $19,518,408 $2,191,486 11.2% $465,194
2022 $13,760,754 $999,645 7.3% $311,166
2023 $11,150,333 $484,844 4.3% $120,020

2025 $50,731,952 $6,774,236 13.4% $1,571,681

Following mobile expansions away from GamBet, exchanging it with FanDuel, and adding other Washington DC sports betting sites like BetMGM and Caesars, a clear uptick has occurred since. With this, the number of bets placed in June 2025 contributed to the record-breaking monthly handle that the District of Columbia Government Office of Lottery and Gaming outlined.
