Now is the Time to Bet on Cuomo or Sliwa in NYC Mayoral Race - Zohran Mamdani, Andrew Cuomo, Curtis Sliwa
  • The possibility of either dropping out of the race means that now is the time to bet on Andrew Cuomo (+1000 odds) or Curtis Sliwa (+10000 odds) to become the New York City mayor.

New York – Now may be the time to bet on Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa to win the New York City Mayoral Election on November 4. Cuomo has +1000 odds to win, while Sliwa has even longer odds at +10000. Zohran Mamdani is the current favorite to become the new Mayor in NYC with -2000 odds.

Why Bet on Cuomo and Sliwa to Become New York City’s Mayor?

The logic behind betting on both Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa to become the Mayor of New York City is simple.

Bettors can secure long odds on either of them now, before either one of them drops out of the race. If one of them does, which is not a guarantee, bettors would have odds on a candidate who likely would have just secured a large percentage of voters who were previously planning on voting for the person who dropped out.

One specific angle that may prove fruitful at legal political betting sites is to wager 90% of their normal betting unit on Cuomo with +1000 odds and the remaining 10% of their unit on Sliwa with +10000 odds. Doing this ensures a substantial profit if either New York City mayoral candidates defeats Mamdani.

An example of this strategy is outlined below based on a standard $100 unit.

  • If a bettor places $90 on Cuomo to win, they would win $900. After subtracting the $10 they lost on Sliwa to win, they would profit $890 if Cuomo won.
  • If a bettor also places $10 on Sliwa to win, they would win $1,000. Their net profit would be $910 after subtracting their $90 loss from the Cuomo to win NYC Mayor bet.

Why Not Just Bet on Zohran Mamdani to Become NYC Mayor?

Just like the reasoning behind betting on either Andrew Cuomo or Curtis Sliwa to win, the logic behind not betting on Zohran Mamdani with -2000 odds to become the new Mayor of New York is simple.

There is not enough profit to be had with -2000 odds at legal online betting sites for what may be a risky bet.

That is because voters who support either Cuomo or Sliwa, especially Sliwa voters, may be more likely to change their vote to the other candidate than to Mamdani based on the political spectrum.

Zohran Mamdani is considered to be a very far-left candidate based on his affiliation with the Democratic Socialists of America organization, while Cuomo is considered a more standard non-extremist Democrat, and Sliwa is a Republican. Andrew Cuomo is running as an independent in this election due to his loss to Mamdani in the NYC Democratic Primary, but it is safe to consider him a Democrat, considering his long history as one in politics.

Based on those affiliations, it is safe to assume that would-be Sliwa voters would vote for Andrew Cuomo if he were to drop out of the race. Sliwa has recently reconfirmed his decision not to drop out of the race while quoting Braveheart, but the long odds on Cuomo to win based on the idea that Sliwa’s voters would shift to Cuomo make up for the risk.

If Andrew Cuomo were to drop out, it is less clear if his voters would choose to support Sliwa or Mamdani. But, it is very possible that Cuomo would then endorse Sliwa based on what he said regarding Mamdani in his September 7 press release:

“Far-left extremism is not a corrective to Trump’s far right. It is a mirror. Trump and Mamdani share the same tactic: inflame and polarize, then declare moderation betrayal. Each feeds off the other. This leaves the majority – Democrats, Republicans, and independents alike – alienated, disillusioned, and abandoned. And it collapses the center-left and center-right, the only places where durable solutions are forged.”

Based on that statement, it is likely that Andrew Cuomo would endorse Curtis Sliwa to win the mayoral race if he believes that Sliwa is center enough in his political beliefs.

Overall, now may be the time to bet on Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa to win the race with long New York City Mayor odds based on the possibility that either candidate drops out and their voters shift to the other.
