The reigning MVP from last season, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, is the heavy favorite on legal sports betting sites, with Victor Wembanyama sitting at +300 odds. However, leading the league in scoring and averaging nearly a triple-double, Luka Doncic sits with the third shortest odds down at +2500.

It is a bit confusing as to why NBA odds continue to fade Doncic, being that he’s currently leading the league in scoring with 33.8 ppg, putting up the fourth most assists per game at 8.3, and pulling in 7.8 rpg for a near triple-double average.
Doncic is well in reach of meeting the 65-game requirement to be eligible to win the MVP, having played 63 games. It also helps that the Los Angeles Lakers are only two games ahead of the Denver Nuggets for the third seed, meaning they’ll likely look to keep their regular lineup until securing the third spot.
Compared to Shai, yes, he has the Thunder in position to lock up the top seed in the West for the third straight season; however, his numbers across the board do not meet Luka’s and have even regressed a bit compared to last season.
As for Wemby, he’s in real danger of not meeting the league requirement of games to be eligible. He’s notched 61 games played; however, San Antonio sits firmly in second place with no risk of falling back. That said, the Spurs could look to hold out their superstar to avoid injury ahead of the playoffs.
