ATLANTA – Cristopher Sanchez props for Wednesday’s Game 2 sit at 6.5 strikeouts and 17.5 outs recorded, with the Philadelphia Phillies one loss from elimination against the Atlanta Braves in the National League Wild Card Series.
Game 1 Leaves Philadelphia One Loss From Elimination
Game 1 turned in the eighth on Tuesday: Austin Riley took Jhoan Duran deep with two outs and two on, wiping out the 3-2 lead J.T. Realmuto’s two-run triple had built an inning earlier, and the Braves closed it out 5-3. Duran threw two innings in that game, so Philadelphia has reason to let its starter go deep in Wednesday’s 2 p.m. ET game on NBC.
The Braves went 9-4 against the Phillies in the regular season, the backdrop for the Chris Sale strikeout props in Game 1. Philadelphia needed Zack Wheeler’s six innings of one-run ball in a 7-3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 162 just to clinch the last National League wild-card spot. In baseball’s best-of-three Wild Card Series, one more Atlanta win ends it.
Philadelphia Is The Road Favorite Behind Sanchez
Atlanta was near -195 behind Sale in Game 1 and is +100 with Mahle starting, a swing that comes almost entirely from the pitching matchup. Philadelphia is the road favorite on legal MLB betting sites because Sanchez went 18-7 with a 2.91 ERA and 231 strikeouts in 207 innings, and he finished second to Paul Skenes in last year’s National League Cy Young voting.

The Strikeout Over Has Cleared Once In Five Starts
Sanchez averaged seven strikeouts a start and reached seven in 19 of 33, or 58% of starts. He reached seven strikeouts only once in his last five starts, striking out 10 Tampa Bay Rays on Sept. 25 after totals of 5, 3, 5 and 6.
Atlanta has not been an easy draw either. He struck out 13 Braves in 12 innings across two 2026 starts, but he is 0-5 against Atlanta with a 3.26 ERA in nine career outings, and that four Braves regulars – Matt Olson, Ozzie Albies, Ronald Acuña Jr. and Riley – own a combined .389 average against him, 28-for-72.
Outs Recorded Is The Sturdiest Line
Sanchez recorded 18 or more outs in 25 of 33 starts, or 76%, and in each of his last five, so the 17.5 line asks for six innings from a pitcher who averages 18.8 outs. With Duran used Tuesday and elimination on the line, Philadelphia has little reason to go to the bullpen early. The risk is the Braves’ bats, since Sanchez got exactly six innings in both 2026 starts against them, the minimum the line requires.
Sanchez Has Allowed Two-Plus Runs In Five Straight
Sanchez allowed one earned run or fewer in 15 of 33 starts, or 45%, so he has given up at least two in most outings despite the 2.91 ERA.
His last five starts produced 3, 6, 5, 2 and 2 earned runs for a 5.12 ERA, and the last time he allowed one or fewer was seven scoreless innings at the Los Angeles Angels on Aug. 29. He carries a 3.87 ERA on the road against 2.23 at home, and Game 2 is at Truist Park.
Mahle’s 1.99 ERA Covers 54 Innings
Mahle went 7-10 with a 3.99 ERA overall, and the 1.99 ERA he has posted since the San Francisco Giants traded him to Atlanta covers only 54.1 innings. He allowed one earned run or fewer in seven of those nine starts, including 13 innings and one earned run against Philadelphia in September.
The other two were two earned runs at the Minnesota Twins on Aug. 18 and five against the Cincinnati Reds on Sept. 24, his last outing before the playoffs, and that one start lifted his ERA from 1.28 to 1.99. That gap, 54.1 innings of Mahle against 207 of Sanchez, is what legal sports betting markets are pricing. A Philadelphia win forces a Game 3 on Thursday at Truist Park, and an Atlanta win ends the Phillies’ season.
