- Implied handle fell about 11% to just over $400 million as hold dropped to 8.08% from 9.24% a year earlier.
- Sportsbook win on the Las Vegas Strip and Downtown fell $11.3 million combined, more than the $9.5 million statewide decline.

LAS VEGAS – Nevada sportsbook win fell 22.53% to $32.6 million in August as football win dropped 74.65%, the Nevada Gaming Control Board said Wednesday in its monthly revenue report.
Football Win Fell $12.1 Million As Baseball Rose $1.1 Million
The report splits sports win into football, basketball, baseball, parlay cards, hockey and an unitemized “other” line, which add up to the $32.6 million total. Football won $4.1 million at a 10.89% hold, against $16.3 million at 16.09% in the board’s August 2025 report. That $12.1 million drop alone exceeds the $9.5 million net decline in sports win.
Dividing win by the report’s win percent puts football handle at about $38 million, down from about $101 million a year earlier. Football’s 10.89% August hold was below last August’s 16.09% but well above its 6.98% rate over 12 months. Applying last year’s hold to this year’s handle leaves about $10.2 million of the $12.1 million drop to lower volume.
Baseball won $16.5 million, up 6.98% at an 8.06% hold, from $15.5 million at 7.25%, and overtook football as the largest line. Its handle, calculated the same way, slipped about 4% to $205 million, so the gain came from hold. Basketball won $3.1 million at 7.33%, against $0.5 million at 1.41%. Parlay cards won $197,000, hockey posted a $224,000 loss and the “other” line won $8.9 million, down 10.23%.
Handle And Hold Each Explain About Half The Drop
The board’s report tracks Nevada sports betting as win and win percent, with no handle figure. Dividing one by the other gives the handle the figures imply, just over $400 million in August 2026 against about $455 million from the $42.0 million won at a 9.24% hold in the August 2025 report, a drop of about $52 million.
Had the books held last August’s 9.24% on this August’s handle, win would have been about $37.2 million, $4.8 million short of last year. The remaining $4.7 million shortfall came from the lower hold.
Last August’s 9.24% sat 2.5 points above the 6.71% 12-month hold reported at the time, while this August’s 8.08% is 0.46 points above the current 7.62% 12-month rate. The decline is measured against an unusually high prior-year hold, and this August’s hold still topped its 12-month rate.
The prior-year figures here are as first published in the board’s August 2025 report, and the board says win totals are subject to revision.
The Las Vegas Strip And Downtown Fell $11.3 Million
Las Vegas Strip sports pools won $14.1 million, down 31.94%, at an 8.27% hold, compared with $20.8 million at 11.05% in the August 2025 report. Downtown Las Vegas won $7.9 million, down 36.95%, at a 7.41% hold, compared with $12.5 million at 8.71%. Together the two areas won $22.0 million, down from $33.3 million, and accounted for 68% of the statewide total.
On the same arithmetic, Strip handle fell about 9% and Downtown Las Vegas handle about 26%. The Strip decline was mostly a lower hold, and Downtown’s mostly lower volume.
Clark County as a whole won $30.1 million, down 21.05%. The balance of Clark County outside the named areas won $6.7 million, up 174.51% from $2.4 million, as its baseball line swung from a $3.3 million loss to a $3.1 million win. The board’s report does not name operators.
Mobile Produced 82% Of Win As Other Betting Fell 54%
Mobile wagering produced $26.7 million of the August win, down 9.11% from $29.4 million, at an 8.25% hold against 8.72% a year earlier. The board’s report describes the mobile line as wagering from personal devices, shown as a total across sports, so it is a share of the $32.6 million rather than an addition to it. Mobile’s share rose to 82.0% from 69.9% in August 2025.
Win outside mobile fell to $5.9 million from $12.7 million, a 54% decline. Of the $9.5 million statewide drop, $6.8 million came outside mobile and $2.7 million came in mobile.
Twelve-Month Win Is Still Up 11.84%
Sports win for June through August totaled $121.0 million, down 0.68% at an 8.25% hold, a period that includes June’s 20% sports win gain. For the 12 months through August, legal sports betting in Nevada produced $603.4 million, up 11.84% at a 7.62% hold.
August’s sports win equaled 2.57% of the state’s $1,266,105,114 in total gaming win, which rose 3.14% from $1,227,573,173 a year earlier, according to the Nevada Gaming Control Board’s press release. The board’s release is dated Sept. 30, and it typically reports a month’s results in the last week of the following month, which would put September’s figures, the first to include NFL regular-season games, in late October.
