Does Venmo Work Directly at a Sportsbook?
At a growing number of regulated, state-licensed sportsbooks, yes. Venmo sits on the cashier screen like any other e-wallet, the app opens, you approve, and the money lands. The other side of this market works nothing like that. None of the seven offshore books we cover takes a plain Venmo transfer into a betting account. Bovada bettors trade through MatchPay, and everyone else on the roster buys crypto inside the Venmo app first. Know which of those you are dealing with before you open the app, not after a transfer bounces.
A few things matter more than the rest:
- The regulated list has changed fast through 2025 and 2026. Check the book’s own cashier before you count on any answer, this one included.
- MatchPay is a Bovada arrangement. None of the other six books offers it.
- Those six take Venmo only as a crypto purchase, because Venmo’s terms keep the app to payments between people who know each other, not payments to a gambling business it never partnered with.
- Money rarely comes back the way it went in, especially through MatchPay or the crypto route. Pick your payout method before the first bet.
Where to Bet With Venmo
Every one of the seven books we cover reaches Venmo the long way around. Bovada matches you with another bettor. The other six want crypto you already bought in the app. The routes and the terms, taken off each book’s own cashier or banking page, look like this.
| Sportsbook | Venmo route | Min. deposit | Max. deposit | Fee | Time to credit |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bovada | MatchPay | $10 | $2,000 | Not stated by Bovada | Instant once matched |
| BetOnline | Crypto purchase | $10 | No limit (BTC/ETH) | None from BetOnline | Not published |
| MyBookie | Crypto purchase | $20 | Not published | None stated | Not published |
| Everygame | Crypto purchase | $25 | $2,500 | None | Not published |
| BetNow | Crypto purchase | $20 | $100,000 | Not published | Not published |
| GTBets | Crypto purchase | $35 | $10,000 | Free | Not published |
| Bookmaker | Crypto purchase | $50 | Not published | $0 from Bookmaker | Not published |
No book on that list takes a raw Venmo payment into an account it controls. Bovada reaches you through MatchPay, and it may also take a Venmo-bought crypto deposit the same way the rest of the roster does, so check both doors on Bovada’s site before you assume MatchPay is the only one. The other six show no MatchPay presence anywhere on their banking pages. Crypto is their only Venmo route, and none of them should be described as taking Venmo directly.
These are offshore sportsbooks, available to bettors in most states. They are never legal in the way a state-licensed app is legal, never US-licensed, and never regulated by a state gaming commission.
That fee column is what each book charges on its receiving end, and at all seven it comes in free or unstated. Venmo is where the cost hides. It takes a variable percentage to sell you the crypto, and moving that crypto out of the app carries a network fee on top. Time to credit is not posted either. A crypto deposit lands when the receiving blockchain confirms it, and none of these seven commits to a clock in writing.
Bovada and MatchPay
MatchPay is a peer-to-peer marketplace layered over Bovada, not a Venmo feature Bovada built for itself. It pairs a bettor who wants to deposit with a bettor who wants to withdraw. The two of you settle directly, over Venmo or another app MatchPay supports, while Bovada moves the matching account credits on its end. Venmo is one of several apps accepted for that trade, alongside PayPal, Zelle, Apple Pay and Cash App, per Bovada’s own MatchPay help pages.
A match works nothing like a card charge. MatchPay has to find somebody on the other side of your trade first, which can take a moment or considerably longer depending on who else is trading right then. Once two bettors are matched, the transfer itself completes instantly.
Buying Crypto in Venmo for the Rest of the List
Venmo’s built-in crypto feature is the mechanism behind every other row in that table. You buy a supported asset in the app, usually Bitcoin, then send it to the sportsbook’s own deposit address the way any other crypto depositor would. Among Bitcoin sportsbooks specifically, that is the same deposit a bettor funding from an exchange makes. Venmo is just where the coin came from.
Buying starts at $1, and Venmo carries Bitcoin plus several other assets. Sending any of it to an outside address, instead of to another Venmo user, means clearing identity verification on your Venmo account first. There is also a weekly ceiling on how much crypto can leave the app, and the current figure sits in your crypto settings. Look it up before you plan a deposit around it. That outside send carries a network fee an ordinary person-to-person payment never touches, on top of the percentage Venmo already took to sell you the coin.
Venmo at Regulated Sportsbooks
A growing list of licensed, state-regulated sportsbooks connects to Venmo directly, and no method on a regulated cashier has moved faster through 2025 and 2026. The table below is what each book confirms on its own cashier, help page or site. Where a book says nothing either way, the row says so instead of guessing.
| Sportsbook | Venmo deposit | Venmo withdrawal | Min. deposit | Max. deposit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| DraftKings | Not confirmed | Not confirmed | Not published | Not published |
| FanDuel | Yes | Yes, conditional | $10 | Not published |
| BetMGM | Not listed | Not listed | N/A | N/A |
| Caesars | Yes | Yes | $5 | Not published |

| Fanatics | Yes | Yes | $5 | Not published |
| Hard Rock Bet | Yes | Yes | Not published | Not published |
| bet365 | Yes | Yes | $30 | $10,000 |

| SuperBook | Not confirmed | Not confirmed | Not published | Not published |
| theScore Bet | Not listed | Not listed | N/A | N/A |
| Ember | Yes | Not published | Not published | Not published |
Six books put Venmo in writing on their own pages. Hard Rock Bet, FanDuel, Caesars, ESPN Bet, Fanatics and bet365 all name it. FanDuel adds a footnote worth taking seriously. A Venmo withdrawal there only unlocks once the account was funded by Venmo first, the same rule FanDuel puts on most of its payment methods.
Ember lists Venmo as a deposit method in both states it currently operates in, and it does not publish withdrawal methods for any payment method at all. Find out how you would get paid before you fund an account there.
BetMGM’s cashier names Visa, Mastercard, American Express and PayPal, and Venmo appears nowhere on it. theScore Bet‘s detailed banking page names eight separate methods without Venmo among them. Both deserve a second look, because roundups elsewhere list the pair as Venmo-friendly while their own pages do not. DraftKings, BetRivers, Bally Bet, BetParx, Circa Sports and SuperBook say nothing either way on their cashier pages. Treat that as an open question, not a no, and look before you fund.
Banking terms shift from state to state, and no book publishes a clean state-level map of them. Treat a national Venmo claim as something to verify at sign-up, not something the marketing already settled for you.
Why can a licensed book connect straight to Venmo while a personal transfer to an unlicensed one dies on arrival? A business arrangement between Venmo and that sportsbook, not the ordinary person-to-person product most people open every day. Venmo’s user agreement positions the app for payments between people who know each other and restricts unauthorized merchant use. A partnership is what puts a licensed sportsbook on the right side of that line.
None of the above ranks one legal sports betting site over another. It is what each book’s own terms allow, nothing more.
How to Make a Venmo Deposit
The steps below are the regulated, direct-redirect flow. Bovada’s MatchPay trade and the crypto purchase the other six take work nothing like this.
Step 1: Choose Venmo and Enter the Amount
Open the cashier or banking page inside the sportsbook’s app or site and pick Venmo from the deposit methods. Some books bury it under a general digital wallet tile instead of naming it on the first screen, so look one level deeper. Enter your amount, mind that book’s minimum, and confirm.
Step 2: Approve the Payment in the Venmo App
The sportsbook hands you off to Venmo’s own login screen instead of asking you to type card-style details into its page. Approve the payment there, under the same identity you opened the betting account with. A mismatch between the name on Venmo and the name on the sportsbook account is a common cause of a stalled deposit now, and of a frozen first withdrawal later.
Step 3: Check the Balance Before the First Bet
Go back to the sportsbook and confirm the money posted before you place a bet. Most regulated books credit a Venmo deposit within minutes, and confirming first saves you a bet slip error while the transfer is still processing. If the balance has not moved after a few minutes, open Venmo and check whether the payment completed before you contact support. A completed payment on Venmo’s side with no matching credit is the detail support can act on.
This Flow Does Not Apply Offshore
None of it carries over. A plain Venmo send made straight to an offshore sportsbook’s own account appears nowhere among the sportsbook deposit methods these seven books publish, and it is not recoverable if it goes nowhere. No redirect. No partnership. No dispute process. MatchPay at Bovada and a crypto purchase everywhere else are the only two ways a Venmo balance reaches an offshore book.
Why Your Venmo Deposit Didn’t Go Through
Venmo Flagged the Payment as Gambling
Venmo’s terms keep the app to payments between people who know each other, not payments to a merchant it never partnered with, and a gambling send to an unpartnered destination is exactly what that policy stops. So a raw send to any of the seven never clears, whatever you write in the note field. There is no appeal on this one. Use MatchPay or the crypto route instead.
The Sportsbook Isn’t a Direct Venmo Partner Yet
A regulated book that does not take Venmo made a business decision. It is nothing like the policy wall an offshore send hits. The list of regulated books connecting to Venmo has grown fast, so a brand that turned it down a year ago may take it now. Check that cashier before you write it off.
Your Venmo Account Isn’t Verified for the Send
Venmo wants identity verification before it will move money to certain destinations, an outside crypto address included, and an unverified account gets stopped right there no matter what the balance says. Clear verification inside the app first, then deposit. That fixes it in most cases.
The Name on Venmo Doesn’t Match the Sportsbook Account
A regulated sportsbook expects the name on the funding method to match the name on the betting account. Venmo is no exception. Pay from a spouse’s account or a shared household account and the deposit commonly stalls, or the first withdrawal freezes, until support sorts it out.
Your Linked Bank or Card Behind Venmo Declined the Transfer
Venmo mostly pulls from a linked bank account, debit card or Venmo balance behind the scenes instead of holding cash of its own. That linked source can decline on its own even when Venmo would have allowed the payment. A bank flagging an unfamiliar transfer, or a card short on funds, produces the same failed deposit with a different fix. Call the bank or the card issuer, not the sportsbook.
Your State Isn’t Covered by That Book’s Venmo Support Yet
Venmo’s support for a given sportsbook is not uniform state to state, even where the book advertises Venmo nationally. The map moves. A state without support at a book last year may have it now, and it can go the other direction too. Confirm it in the app rather than trusting last year’s answer, or this one.
Getting Paid Out
Regulated books do not all treat Venmo as deposit-only. FanDuel describes a Venmo withdrawal path alongside the deposit option, conditional on the account having been funded by Venmo first. Hard Rock Bet’s Florida terms name Venmo as one of exactly three withdrawal methods available there. Caesars, ESPN Bet, Fanatics and bet365 each confirm a Venmo payout on their own pages too. Where a book will not confirm one, plan on ACH, a debit card, a Play+ prepaid card or a paper check, and find your route in the app before it matters.
| Sportsbook | Pays back to Venmo? | Payout method | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bovada | Yes, through MatchPay | Reverse MatchPay trade | Instant once matched, 2 per day |
| BetOnline | No | Crypto wallet | Within 24 hours, often faster |
| MyBookie | No | Bitcoin | 12 to 24 hour review, 12 to 24 hour delivery |
| Everygame | No | Bitcoin or other crypto | Starts within 48 hours, instant once processed |
| BetNow | No | Bitcoin | 1 to 3 days |
| GTBets | No | Bitcoin | 1 to 3 days |
| Bookmaker | No | Bitcoin or other crypto | 2 to 3 hours typical, up to 48 hours |
The offshore side runs on two genuinely different mechanics. A MatchPay withdrawal at Bovada is a reverse match. The bettor cashing out gets paid by a different bettor who happens to be depositing at that moment, not by Bovada, so the timing rides on a match being available rather than on Bovada’s own processing speed. The other six pay out to a crypto wallet address you control, never back into Venmo. Turning that crypto into a Venmo balance is your own step afterward, and none of these books does it for you.
Have a wallet address ready, or a second payout method on file, before you play. Deciding after a win is the slowest way to learn the difference between those two mechanics.
Bookmaker’s crypto route and a completed MatchPay match both beat a paper check or a wire from the same books by days, sometimes by more than a week. Among the fastest sportsbook payouts on this list, those two are the ones to have set up in advance.
Venmo Sportsbook Bonuses
A Venmo-funded deposit at the books above generally qualifies for the standard welcome offer, with one wrinkle. Six of the seven take Venmo only as a crypto purchase, so the money lands on the sportsbook’s side as a crypto deposit, and a crypto deposit earns a richer bonus tier at some of them. BetNow, MyBookie, Everygame and Bovada all pay a bigger dollar bonus on crypto than on a card. BetOnline pays the identical offer either way. Bookmaker’s card bonus is a shade bigger than its crypto one. Confirm it per book before you assume it holds across the roster.
Bovada is the cleanest worked example, since its card and crypto sports offers share the same structure and the same 5x rollover on deposit plus bonus, differing only in percentage and cap.
Worked example
A $300 deposit at Bovada draws a $150 bonus on a card, 50% up to $250, against a $225 bonus funded in crypto, 75% up to $750, a $75 gap in the bonus itself. That bigger bonus is not free money. The card version requires $2,250 in graded wagers before it clears and the crypto version requires $2,625, so the extra $75 costs you $375 in extra wagering.
Rollover counts sports wagers asymmetrically. A winning bet credits only the smaller of what you risked or what you won, a losing bet credits the full amount risked, and Bovada caps any single sports wager at 50% of what you deposited while the bonus is live. Match rates and rollover terms on sportsbook bonuses move around, so read the current offer before you opt into it.
Is Venmo the Right Way to Fund a Sportsbook?
It depends on which side of the market you are funding.
- For it. Venmo is already on your phone and already set up. At the regulated books that support it, the redirect is direct and instant. If you have never bought crypto, it is also the gentlest way to try the offshore route without opening an exchange account first.
- Against it. No offshore sportsbook on this roster takes Venmo as a plain send, so going that way is a crypto deposit with extra steps and a weekly transfer ceiling stacked in front of it. MatchPay needs another bettor available to trade against, which a card charge never needs. Payouts do not reliably come back the way the deposit went in, on either side of the split.
Venmo and PayPal share a parent company, and offshore the comparison mostly bears that out. Both function as an on-ramp into crypto instead of a direct sportsbook deposit method, though PayPal’s crypto transfer terms are its own, so read them before assuming that parity holds indefinitely. On the regulated side, a book that lists one increasingly lists both, though not universally. In practice you will pick whichever app is already open on your phone.
At Bovada, MatchPay supports Venmo and PayPal identically, for a deposit and for a withdrawal, confirmed on Bovada’s own MatchPay pages.
So where does that leave Venmo? At the Venmo sports betting sites that list it directly, it works like any other e-wallet on that cashier screen, and there is nothing wrong with that. Offshore, its value is as an on-ramp, into MatchPay at Bovada or into crypto everywhere else on the roster. Among sportsbook deposit methods generally, reach for Venmo because it is already installed, not because it does something a card or a crypto exchange could not do on its own.
Venmo Sportsbook FAQ
Do Sportsbooks Accept Venmo?
Yes, and how depends on the book. A growing list of regulated, state-licensed books connects to Venmo right on the cashier. None of the seven books we cover take a plain Venmo transfer, funding instead through MatchPay at Bovada or a crypto purchase everywhere else.
Does Bovada Take Venmo?
Yes, indirectly, through MatchPay. Bovada’s peer-to-peer marketplace pairs a depositing bettor with a withdrawing one, the two of them settle over Venmo or another supported app, and Bovada moves the matching credits.
What Is MatchPay?
A peer-to-peer marketplace layered over Bovada, not a Venmo feature Bovada built for itself. It matches a bettor who wants to deposit with a bettor who wants to withdraw, then lets the two settle directly with each other.
Can You Buy Crypto With Venmo to Fund a Sportsbook?
Yes. Venmo’s built-in crypto feature lets you buy Bitcoin and other assets inside the app and send them to a sportsbook’s own deposit address. Six of the seven offshore books here take a Venmo-linked deposit exactly that way.
Which Regulated Sportsbooks Accept Venmo?
Hard Rock Bet, FanDuel, Caesars, ESPN Bet, Fanatics and bet365 all name Venmo on their own cashier or banking pages. The list has grown quickly, so check any other book’s cashier directly instead of assuming Venmo is absent.
Why Did My Venmo Payment Get Declined?
Six causes cover nearly all of it. Venmo flagged the payment as gambling, the sportsbook is not a Venmo partner yet, your Venmo account is unverified, the name on Venmo does not match the betting account, the bank or card behind Venmo declined, or that book’s Venmo support does not reach your state yet.
Can You Withdraw Sports Betting Winnings to Venmo?
At most regulated books that list Venmo, yes, though some, FanDuel included, unlock a Venmo withdrawal only after the account was funded that way. Offshore, only Bovada pays back to Venmo, and only through a reverse MatchPay match funded by another bettor.
Are There Fees for a Venmo Sportsbook Deposit?
Depends on the route. None of the seven offshore books charges its own fee on a MatchPay trade or a crypto deposit. Venmo charges a variable percentage to buy the crypto and a network fee to send it out. Fees on a direct Venmo deposit at a regulated book are not posted on the cashier pages themselves.
Does Venmo Ban Accounts for Gambling?
Venmo’s user agreement positions the app for payments between people who know each other and restricts unauthorized merchant use. That is the likely reason a plain send to an unpartnered gambling business does not work. A licensed sportsbook that has partnered with Venmo sits outside that restriction by agreement.
Is Venmo or PayPal Better for Sports Betting?
Neither has a real edge. At Bovada, MatchPay treats both apps identically, and offshore both work only as a route into crypto, so pick whichever app you already have open.
The Short Version
- No offshore sportsbook on this roster takes a plain Venmo send. Bovada trades through MatchPay, and the other six take it only as crypto bought inside the app.
- The regulated list connects to Venmo directly and keeps growing, fast enough that the current answer belongs on a cashier page rather than in your memory.
- Money does not reliably come back the way it went in, especially through MatchPay or the crypto route. Have your payout method ready before the first bet.
