Best Bets, Props, Trends For The CFB National Championship - Curt Cignetti, Mario Cristobal
  • The Indiana Hoosiers have -300 odds to win the National Championship against the Miami Hurricanes.
  • Elijah Sarratt leads all players (-122) in odds to score a touchdown.
  • Player props for Malachi Toney show he’s projected to have the most receiving yards in the title game.

MIAMI – Monday marks one week from the college football National Championship, but sportsbooks are already taking action.

At open, the Indiana Hoosiers were 8-point favorites and -300 on the moneyline. With the Miami Hurricanes at +250, some might think legal CFB betting sites are giving too big a spread. However, this falls in line with past title games as of late.

  • 2024: Ohio State -8.5 (Covered)
  • 2023: Michigan -5.5 (Covered)
  • 2022: Georgia -13.5 (Covered)
  • 2021: Georgia -3 (Covered)
  • 2020: Alabama -9.5 (Covered)
  • 2019: LSU -4.5 (Covered)

Despite the favorite covering in all six of the last championships, the underdog covered in all six prior, negating any trend perceived.

Outside of the margin bets, sportsbooks have a total set at 48.5 points, with shading already on the over.

Much of that has to do with the anytime touchdown odds for the National Championship, which feature four players with favored odds. Add in another three players with odds to score under +150, and it could be quite a scoring spectacle.

Odds To Score A Touchdown In The National Championship

  • Elijah Sarratt (IND) -122
  • Mark Fletcher Jr. (MIA) -122
  • Kaelon Black (IND) -114
  • Roman Hemby (IND) -110
  • Charlie Becker (IND) +125
  • Omar Cooper Jr. (IND) +135
  • Malachi Toney (MIA) +145
  • Fernando Mendoza (IND) +195
  • CharMar Brown (MIA) +240
  • Keelan Marion (MIA) +240
  • CJ Daniels (MIA) +250

Leading the pack is Elijah Sarratt, who recorded 15 touchdowns on the season. With three throughout the CFB Playoffs (Rose Bowl and Peach Bowl), Sarratt has also scored in 10 of 13 games played this season.

A similar story is present for Mark Fletcher Jr., who has 12 touchdowns on the year. While Fletcher has only scored once in three playoff games, he secured a touchdown in seven of 10 games played.

Player Props For The CFB National Championship

For the stars of the show, legal sports betting sites have already listed player props for the CFB Title Game.

Props For Carson Beck: Passing Yards

  • Over 202.5 -110
  • Under 202.5 -110

Beck has beaten this number in 11 of 15 games this season. However, the first two games of the College Football Playoffs, Beck went way under (103 vs Texas A&M, 138 vs Ohio State).

Props For Fernando Mendoza: Passing Yards

  • Over 214.5 -110
  • Under 214.5 -110

While 214.5 yards may seem like an easy obstacle for the Heisman winner, it takes a second look. For the first seven games of the year, Mendoza covered this mark six times. However, the last eight games have seen Mendoza throw for over 214 yards only three times.

This change comes from the fact that Mendoza averaged 26 passing attempts early on, while only 21 in the second half of the year. However, the Indiana defense is also “to blame”, allowing less than 10 points in four of those games and not requiring the help of Mendoza’s arm.

Props For Elijah Sarratt: Receiving Yards

  • Over 54.5 -110
  • Under 54.5 -110

Similar to Mendoza, Sarratt had an early stretch of covering without issue. From his second to seventh game (6 games), Sarratt recorded 55+ receiving yards in five of them. Outside of these matchups (7 games), Sarratt only covered this number once (the Peach Bowl).

Props For Malachi Toney: Receiving Yards

  • Over 61.5 -110
  • Under 61.5 -110

There in no handicapping trends for Malachi Toney, who recorded 1089 receiving yards, 273 punt return yards, and two passing touchdowns on the year.

Toney is just always involved.

However, his string of eight touchdowns (6 receiving, 2 passing) over the last six games proves Miami is utilizing him to the fullest. Toney has hit over this mark in 9 of 15 games played but has been averaging only 7.9 yards per catch – much lower than his regular season mark of 11.5 ypc.
