Can Clark-less Fever Pull Off An Upset Against The Mercury?
  • The Phoenix Mercury are three and a half point favorites over the Indiana Fever at home on Thursday night.
  • The Fever have a six-game win streak against the Mercury dating back to 2023, but will be without Caitlin Clark.

PHOENIX – A showdown between two potential playoff teams in the WNBA tips off Thursday night at 10 p.m. ET as the Phoenix Mercury host the Indiana Fever in what should be one to watch.

Fever vs Mercury Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
Fever +3.5 (-110) +140 O 173.5 (-110)
Mercury -3.5 (-110) -165 U 173.5 (-110)

Legal sports betting sites favor the Mercury at home in this one, likely in part due to the status of Caitlin Clark’s groin injury.

However, even with Clark sidelined, Indiana has a good shot of pulling this one out. Here’s why:

Recent Performance

Indiana was one of the hottest teams in the WNBA over the last month and they managed to do so even with Caitlin Clark sidelined for about half of the month, going 7-4 in July and rattling off a five game win streak after Clark’s injury.

Three of those wins came on the road, getting them to 8-7 on the road overall.

They had their best offensive month of the season in July, averaging 86.9 points per game while setting season highs in field goal attempts, three point attempts, and assists per game.

After a hot start to the season, Phoenix lost a step in July, going 4-5 in the month and allowing 83.9 points per game, their worst of any month this year. They’ve gone 2-1 so far in August, but have averaged just 79.0 points per game in that span.

Home / Road Splits

The Mercury have been one of the best teams at home this season, going 10-4 through their first 14 games in Phoenix. However, two of those four losses at home have come in their last five home games, making them 3-2 in those games, a much more alarming rate.

Indiana, on the other hand, has found their groove on the road, winning six of their last nine away from home after starting 2-4 in road games.

Phoenix has allowed just 77.9 points per game at home and while Indiana’s scoring does take a noticeable dip from their home stats, they still manage to put up 82.5 points per game on average when on the road, so something will have to give.

Head To Head

The two teams have faced each other one time this season, resulting in a 107-101 victory for the Fever, who were without Caitlin Clark.

Interestingly, Indiana has won their last six games against Phoenix, a streak dating all the way back to 2023 before Clark was drafted.

All things considered, history is on Indiana’s side as well as momentum, making them a solid pick for tonight’s game. Bet on the Fever to win outright with +140 odds at WNBA betting sites.
