BetMGM

  • BetMGM is the third online sportsbook in Virginia to launch within just one week of the first platform launching.
  • Remote registration is allowed for online sportsbooks in Virginia.
  • MGM Resorts has previously partnered with the Washington Nationals for an in-stadium sportsbook.

RICHMOND, Va.BetMGM has officially launched its online sportsbook in Virginia, becoming the third platform to do so.

Having received a license from the Virginia Lottery, bettors can now register for the app or website remotely and begin betting on a wide range of sporting events, including Super Bowl 55. However, in-state collegiate sports betting odds won’t be found due to state law.

“We’re ecstatic that BetMGM is one of the first mobile sports betting platforms to launch in Virginia,” said Adam Greenblatt BetMGM CEO. “Virginians are passionate sports fans, and we’re thrilled to provide them a user-friendly sports betting experience. BetMGM Virginia customers can earn benefits and will soon enjoy innovative experiences planned with MGM National Harbor in Maryland and the Washington Nationals.”

Sports bettors who use the BetMGM online sportsbook in Virginia, can enter the MGM Resorts M life rewards program and redeem those points at MGM National Harbor or any MGM property around the country.

MGM Resorts also previously partnered with the Washington Nationals and plan on opening a land-based sportsbook inside the Nationals’ stadium later this year.

These are all efforts to differentiate BetMGM from what is a quickly growing market.

What Other Online Sportsbooks Are In VA?

FanDuel Sportsbook kicked off the legal sports betting market in Virginia just last Thursday. Their stronghold over the market was short-lived, however, as DraftKings launched their online sportsbook last Sunday.

Both of those platforms were able to secure bets in time for the AFC and NFC Championship in the NFL. The launch of BetMGM still puts it in a position to capture bets from the Super Bowl which is historically the single biggest betting event each year.

What Options Are Coming?

The rollout of online sportsbooks in Virginia has been slow but steady, unlike Michigan which launched 10 online sportsbooks on the same day.

There can only be 12 Virginia online sportsbooks based on the current state law and 25 companies applied for those licenses, making the VA Lottery have to vet longer.

According to the Lottery’s website, Portsmouth Gaming Holdings, LLC dba Rivers Casino Portsmouth, was granted a permit on Tuesday. This would mean it’s a safe bet to assume BetRivers will be the next online sports betting site to call Virginia home.
