Connecticut Online Sports Betting

  • Online sports betting will not launch in Connecticut on October 7 as previously planned.
  • This was due to a delay in publication via the Federal Register.
  • There is no new date set for the launch of the industry.

LEDYARD, Conn. – For local Connecticut sports betting fans who were looking forward to wagering at regulated mobile sportsbooks, there is some bad news. Online sports betting in Connecticut has been delayed. The pushback of this launch was caused by an error with the Federal Register publication.

While there has been no announcement for when the new launch will be able to take place, the delay should not last too long and Connecticut betting fans should still expect to see online and mobile sportsbooks soon.

Federal Delay

Lawmakers initially planned to go live with online sportsbooks on Thursday, October 7 prior to the current delay.

“This critical step in the process of modernizing our gaming landscape here in Connecticut ensures that our state will have a competitive, nation-leading marketplace for wagering both in-person and online,” said Ned Lamont, Connecticut Governor.

While granted federal approval for the HB 3977, sports betting bill, and gaming compacts with the Mohegan Indians and Mashantucket Pequot, there were issues in the dialogue with the federal publications.

The Department of Consumer Protection has stated that they do not expect this to be a lengthy delay, as lawmakers simply need to correctly publish the agreements. This is still a slight drawback for Connecticut gamblers, however.

Mobile Connecticut Sportsbooks Are Coming

When online regulated sports betting is able to officially launch, local players will see the likes of DraftKings and FanDuel go live very soon.

DraftKings has partnered with Foxwoods to bring its sportsbook to Connecticut and FanDuel will see its sportsbook platform at Mohegan Sun casino.

The Connecticut Lottery will also be launching its own mobile sportsbook powered through PlaySugarHouse.

While this delay is disappointing, online sportsbooks are on the horizon and the market should be going live within the coming weeks. Mobile sports betting in Connecticut is just around the corner.
