Sporting News

  • PAX Holdings has acquired popular sports media outlet Sporting News from DAZN.
  • PAX has strong investments and ties to the legal sports betting world.
  • Sporting News may become a sports betting media platform.

MILWAUKEE – Legendary sports magazine Sporting News may be in for a major shakeup after being purchased from DAZN by PAX Holdings.

PAX Holdings is an investment firm that has strong ties to the legal sports betting world. The company has invested in the likes of William Hill, Betfair, and the Stars Group.

With Sporting News now being run by a company with such strong ties in the legal sports betting arena, is not farfetched to assume that the media outlet will be leaning in favor of more betting based content.

Sporting News Meets Sports Betting

Sporting News has been around since 1886 and has a long history of covering all the major sporting leagues in the US.

Over the years, the media outlet has seen major changes and new ownership. The company moved to go digital-only in 2012 and was purchased by DAZN in 2013.

Now that PAX Holdings owns the company, sports bettors can possibly expect a new focus on sports betting related content from the long-running sports magazine.

“Sporting News could have value in that last category—as legal sports betting spreads across the U.S. (and the globe), many operators have turned to established media companies as a way to acquire new customers,” said Eben Novy-Williams of Sportico. “Sporting News, which carries a name many U.S. sports fans recognize, could become an affiliate business in that model.”

No official announcement of changes has been made by the digital magazine and the official purchase has not been completed yet. Even still, it is believable to assume that PAX Holdings purchased the media outlet with the intent to integrate sports betting media on the platform.

With the advent of sports betting in the US, more media outlets have embraced legal sports betting. Many outlets have entire segments dedicated to betting lines and odds.
