Defenders Heavy Favorites Over The Showboats On Saturday

WASHINGTON – The DC Defenders will host the Memphis Showboats on Saturday night on ABC, the first primetime game for each team. The Defenders are 1-0, beating the Stallions in Week 1, while the Showboats come into the game 0-1 after losing to the Panthers.

DC had a record of 4-6 last season, while Memphis went just 2-8, neither team qualifying for the playoffs.

They pulled off an upset win in Week 1 over the defending champion Stallions, winning 18-11 in a defensive battle. The defense forced two turnovers and allowed just one touchdown.

The Showboats rotate in two quarterbacks, Troy Williams and EJ Perry. Williams was efficient in his latest performance, completing 8-11 passes for 104 yards, but did not throw for any touchdowns and recorded one interception. Perry was 10-17 for 93 yards and threw for one touchdown, but also threw an interception.

Their defense did not give them much help, as they lost to the Panthers 26-12. Michigan gained 281 yards of total offense, while Memphis accounted for just 247 yards.

Last season when DC and Memphis faced off, it resulted in a 36-21 victory for the Defenders. This time, Memphis will be on the road and coming off a loss.
