• The DraftKings Sportsbook in del Lago will replace the Vine Restaurant and Bar.
  • This expanded area was created from the removal of 300 slot machines.
  • Sports betting regulations in NY are expected to be approved on May 30.

WATERLOO, N.Y. – Construction is underway in upstate New York, as del Lago Resort & Casino’s sportsbook plans are coming into effect.

Set to replace the former Vine Restaurant and Bar, the proposed 6,000 square foot betting lounge will feature its own dining and drinking arrangements of “fan favorite foods, cocktails, and both imported and domestic beer. The lounge will be located right next to the Vine Showroom, which will remain open for special events and concerts.

The casino announced their supplier DraftKings last year, with the provider operating both their physical retail sportsbook and online platform – assuming laws and regulations are approved in NY for mobile betting.

Aside from twenty self-service betting windows, there will also be an area where DraftKings cashiers will stand by to answer questions and accept wagers.

Betting boards on TVs from floor-to-ceiling will surround the 200-person capacity lounge to assist in displaying odds for live, in-play wagering. Additional TVs will broadcast sporting events from all around the world.

This expansion was made possible by del Lago petitioning to the NY Gaming Commission to reduce their slot machines by 15%. In March, the casino made this request dropping their total slot machines from 1,950 to 1,650.

“Once construction is complete, we will likely increase again,” said Steve Greenberg, a spokesman for del Lago.

Similar requests and approvals were previously made for Resorts World Catskills and Tioga Downs, who removed 550 and 50 machines, respectively. The other upstate commercial casino, Rivers Casino in Schenectady, has not made this request to date.

Assuming all goes as planned for the sports betting regulations being approved on May 30, the sportsbook has the possibility of opening this summer.

The other venues in the state have made the same strides to construct a build-out, as the three casinos operated by the Oneida Indian Nation are under development. Aside from Turning Stone Casino in Verona, Point Place Casino in Bridgeport, and Yellow Brick Road Casino in Chittenango, the Tioga Downs Sportsbook has also broken ground.

All eyes will be focused on the battle between Tioga Downs and del Lago, as the suppliers in FanDuel and DraftKings, respectively, have proven their worth in neighboring New Jersey.

“We are excited to begin the construction of our new sportsbook and offer this additional amenity for our guests,” said del Lago’s VP of Gaming Operations, Lance Young.“This next phase in construction marks an incredible step forward for del Lago Resort & Casino.”
