- DraftKings launched its online sportsbook in Puerto Rico, roughly four months after announcing an in-person sportsbook at the Foxwoods El San Juan Casino.
- DraftKings is also expected to layoff between 2% and 15% of the employees.
BOSTON – DraftKings launched its online sportsbook in Puerto Rico on Monday and it has also been reported that the company is laying off between 2% and 15% of its workforce.
DraftKings Sportsbook Launches in Puerto Rico
The decision for DraftKings to join the ever-growing list of legal sports betting sites in Puerto Rico is unsurprising, as the company had already entered the territory with an in-person sportsbook at Foxwoods El San Juan Casino.
When DraftKings announced on November 17, 2025, the retail sportsbook’s launch at the Foxwoods El San Juan Casino, it also said that it would launch online once it secured a license and proper regulatory support.
Two of the most important rules to note for DraftKings online sportsbook in Puerto Rico include:
- New players must sign up in person at the casino’s retail location to use DraftKings’ online sportsbook.
- The online sportsbook is only for Puerto Rico residents. Non-residents can either go in-person to bet with DraftKings at Foxwoods El San Juan Casino or other legal sports betting sites.
DraftKings to Lay Off 2% to 15% of Workforce
In news unrelated to the online sportsbook’s launch in Puerto Rico, it has been reported that DraftKings is expected to lay off between 2% and 15% of its workforce. It is estimated that the lay-offs will save the company about $30M annually.
It is believed that those savings are the main reasons for the lay-offs, although a few people have speculated that DraftKings’ usage of Artificial Intelligence may have made some of the former employees’ roles obsolete.
