- DraftKings will stop accepting credit card deposits in every state starting on August 25, 2025.
- The sports betting company accepted popular credit card brands such as Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express in select jurisdictions.
- DraftKings was recently fined $450,000 in Massachusetts for accepting credit cards, which state regulators had banned it from doing before. This likely influenced their decision to stop accepting the payment method.
BOSTON – DraftKings announced that the sports betting company will no longer accept credit card deposits starting August 25, 2025.
DraftKings was one of the most popular legal credit card betting sites before this announcement, because it accepted Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express.
Why Does DraftKings No Longer Accept Credit Cards?
The main reason why DraftKings no longer accepts credit cards is that the deposit method is effectively being phased out as an option by regulators of legal sports betting sites in many states.
Before the announcement that the site would no longer accept credit cards in any state, the DraftKings Credit Card Overview stated that the sportsbook and casino would not take credit card deposits from Connecticut, Iowa, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Vermont, or Washington DC.
Despite those stated rules, DraftKings was forced to pay multiple fines for accepting credit cards in jurisdictions where regulators had banned the useful online sports betting deposit methods. Their most recent infraction was in Massachusetts.
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission fined DraftKings $450,000, despite the sports gambling platform self-reporting the issue to the state’s governing body.
Given the hefty fine and the growing list of states with legal sports betting that have banned the deposit option, it should come as no surprise that DraftKings no longer accepts credit cards.
