  • Overall, 65% of the total betting handle is on the Gonzaga Bulldogs to win the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

INDIANAPOLIS – The Elite Eight is well underway and examining the betting splits can be a good way to show sports betting fans where the money is being placed.

With the USC Trojans vs. the Gonzaga Bulldogs and the Michigan Wolverines vs. the UCLA Bruins tipping off on Tuesday, a bulk of the action is being wagered on these matchups.

College basketball betting fans have seen major payouts already with underdog betting during the March Madness Tournament, but by examining the splits now, bettors can see the focus has shifted to taking the favorites.

Betting On The Favorites

UCLA Bruins Vs. Michigan Wolverines

  • Moneyline: Michigan -300, UCLA +250
  • Spread: Michigan -7.0
  • Totals: Over/Under 136.0

Looking at the odds, players can see that March Madness betting fans are leaning heavily in favor of the Michigan Wolverines to win their matchup against the UCLA Bruins. The splits confirm this.

Looking at the data from DraftKings sportsbook, 63% of all wagers on this matchup are being placed on Michigan. Michigan has also received 58% of the total betting handle, showing that even more money is being bet on the Wolverines.

UCLA has been a Cinderella Story so far in the tournament, pulling the upset against the BYU Cougars in the first round of the tournament, and then upsetting the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Sweet Sixteen.

“For me, we’ve got to win three more games,” said Mick Cronin, UCLA Head Coach. “I’m happy we’re alive. You do this to try to have a chance, and you never know when this chance is going to come along again, as a coach, as a coaching staff. You just never know.”

Despite these big accomplishments, sports betting fans clearly expect the Wolverines to win, with 60% of the wagers leaning on Michigan to cover the -7.5 spread.

The totals betting line is also seeing a lot of action. The 136.0 Over/Under is seeing 75% of the total wagers being paced on the Over, but 46% of the betting handle is being placed on the Under. This means that larger bets are going towards the Under, but far more wagers are going on the Over.

Interestingly enough, betting fans are actually going against the trend. The Wolverines have hit the Under in 12 of its last 14 games following a straight-up win.

USC Trojans Vs. Gonzaga Bulldogs

  • Moneyline: Gonzaga -450, USC +325
  • Spread: Gonzaga -8.5
  • Totals: Over/Under 153.0

The Gonzaga Bulldogs continue to be (* legal sports betting https://www.legalsportsbetting.com/ *) fans favorite team to bet on throughout the March Madness Tournament.

Gonzaga is seeing 68% of wagers and 67% of the betting handle being placed on them to cover the -8.5 spread. The Zags are also seeing 72% of total bets and 77% of total money being placed on them to win the matchup straight up.

Gonzaga has had an impressive season so far, on pace to becoming only the eighth team in NCAA history to win the national championship by going undefeated, and the first team to do so since 1976.

Betting fans aren’t only placing action on this matchup, but 65% of the total betting handle off of just 25% of the total wagers are leaning on the Zags to win the entire thing.

25% of the total wagers is still more than any other team getting action, but the large percentage gap between the bets and the betting handle shows that big bets are being placed on Gonzaga.

This is a sportsbook’s worst nightmare, as they are sure to lose money on the tournament should Gonzaga not only beat USC but win the tournament. However, since this is March Madness, anything can happen.
