Sports Betting Revenue

  • Eight states just had record high monthly sports betting handles
  • Over $4 billion total was handled in September
  • New Jersey sportsbooks accounted for $1 billion of the total monthly handle

LAS VEGAS – Last month, sportsbooks in several states received more money in wagers than ever before, making it the biggest month yet in the United States sports betting industry.

Eight different states handled a record high in sports wagers in September 2021, meaning more people are placing legal sports bets now than ever before.

September Sports Betting Handle Record Highs

The sports betting industry has been expanding rapidly, with it being recently reported that Americans have bet over $70 billion on sports since 2018.

Biggest Overall Monthly Handle In Sports Betting To-Date

American citizens bet over $4 billion on sports in September alone, leaving high expectations for the rest of the NFL season.

New Jersey alone accounts for over $1 billion of that $4 billion number, raking in over $82 million in September revenue.

Sports Betting is huge, and not just in the United States. A report published on the hobby claims that the industry “is expected to grow at a CAGR of 9.99% in the forecast period of 2020 to 2027.”

Nearly every state in the country has either fully launched or is actively discussing the launch of a state-regulated legal sports betting market, meaning this is likely not even close to how big the industry will become in the coming years.
