PHILADELPHIA – iOS device users in Pennsylvania are now able to enter into the online sports betting platform within the state.

Before the start of the week, only Android devices had the capability to wager on sports at the four licensed online Pennsylvania operators. This was based around the coding issues for the iPhone and, while the code has not changed, bettors are able to use a secondary app to meet the requirements.

The app to download is called GeoGuard, which was created by GeoComply, and assists the casinos in geolocating your phone’s position. This ensures they are following a federal law known as the Wire Act, which prohibits sportsbooks from accepting action that is not submitted within state lines.

Currently, only registered users at PlaySugarHouse and BetRivers are able to utilize this benefit.

How Does GeoGuard Work?

The app is free to download and connects with the mobile betting site you are using. By allowing the app to track your location, it sends confirmation to the site and allows you to start taking action on sporting events.

Some sportsbooks in New Jersey use GeoComply’s service as well, as they are built into their sports betting apps.

The process to get started is simple. After downloading, you will be prompted to use permit the app to follow you. Once you enable the location validator and click “allow”, you will be able to log back into the sports betting site and get started.

For best results, it is advised to always allow the app to track you so that you do not have to give them permission every time you want to make an online wager.

This compatibility only works with the two Rush Street Gaming properties (Rivers Casino and SugarHouse Casino) and unfortunately cannot be used on the Parx Casino nor Hollywood Casino betting platforms.

With mobile betting in Pennsylvania in its infancy stages, the addition of iPhone users should allow the betting handle to increase drastically. According to revenue reports released from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board for June sports betting, almost $20 million was bet online. SugarHouse Casino was responsible for $18.7 million of that.
