• The Sportsbook at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races has taken in $82.7 million in wagers in nine months of operation.
  • Just under $300,000 has been contributed to the state in tax revenue from Hollywood Casino’s Sportsbook.
  • The betting action through June should propel the year-to-date betting handle over $50 million.

CHARLES TOWN, W.V. – The Sportsbook at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races has been outperforming every other West Virginia sportsbook.

According to the newest update from the West Virginia Lottery concerning the weekly sports wagering revenue, Charles Town has been responsible for 70% of the entire sports betting handle since the state’s launch.

After June and July are fully reported, it is possible that this venue will have seen over $100 million worth of action enter their book.

The Sportsbook at Hollywood Casino has brought in a total of $726,000 to the state in taxes, while nearly $300,000 of that has come in 2019 alone.

These contributions were made directly from the bettors doing worse here than at any other sportsbook. Throughout the book’s history, the book has kept 10.23% of all action, much higher than the 5-9% state average.

Legal sports betting is set to enter the summer months, also known as the harsh winter of gambling, as not a lot of betting occurs during this time. In terms of the previous months at Charles Town, May accounted for the lowest handle since their September launch.

Over $6.2 million was wagered on sporting events in May but with the inclusion of mobile betting on the horizon, expect to see this be the lowest number for a while.
